Feral Flora is an Ann Arbor, Michigan based business that specializes in ecological landscape design, installation and maintenance, as well as native plant propagation. The majority of our client base is residential, and we pride ourselves on bringing high quality work and customer service to each job. Job Posting: Field Crew Member

Feral Flora is seeking a crew member to join our field staff and aid in the installation and stewardship of native landscapes and natural areas. Field staff responsibilities also include: hardscape installation, operation and maintenance of hand tools and power tools, on site plant identification, weeding and mechanical invasive plant removal.

Hours and Compensation: This position will consist of 4-day weeks (averaging 32 hrs/wk) from April through November and 5-day weeks in May and June. Potential part-time hours are available December through February if weather and workload allows. This position starts again full-time in March. Opportunity to become a salaried field crew position after 1-2 years.

Starting pay of $18/hr or more, dependent upon experience. $27/hr is the maximum pay for this position. Feral Flora also provides paid vacation, a year-end profit sharing bonus, quarterly massages, continuing education opportunities, retirement benefits (after two full years), possibility for health insurance and salary after the first full year; plus lots of free plants.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ability to work outdoors under various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift objects up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to perform quality work with minimal supervision in an efficient manner
  • Strong interest in plants and willingness to learn more about them
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license 
  • One full field season of experience in environmental conservation/restoration, botany, kitchens, or farming 

Desired qualifications:

  • Interest in ecology and native habitats
  • Michigan native and exotic plant identification
  • Experience in landscaping, natural areas stewardship, or related field 
  • Experience with towing trailers, chain saws, and other light power equipment
