About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Field Ecologist with an active NYS Pesticide Applicator License to join our growing team. This position requires a combination of ecological fieldwork and invasive species management/treatment leadership. Applicants must have both field ecology experience and current licensure as a Commercial Pesticide Applicator (Category 3A preferred; other categories considered with relevant experience).

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, collaborating on restoration and management projects, and contributing directly to habitat improvement across diverse sites in New York State. Work location is hybrid, with a mix of fieldwork, remote, and office-based work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ecological fieldwork, including vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, and restoration monitoring
  • Perform wetland delineations and assessments
  • Lead invasive species management and treatment efforts (Applicator License required)
  • Support habitat restoration, invasive species management, and vegetation management projects
  • Collect and manage field data using GPS, mobile apps, and spreadsheets
  • Help prepare maps, reports, and permit documents
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior scientists on a variety of ecological projects
  • Participate in seasonal field projects, which may include travel and physically demanding work

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, environmental science, natural resources, or a related field
  • Active NYS Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (Category 3A preferred; must be eligible to work under NYS commercial pesticide law)
  • Experience conducting ecological fieldwork (vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, etc.)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied field conditions, including rugged terrain and all weather

Preferred:

  • Experience with native plantings, invasive species control, and/or habitat restoration
  • Familiarity with GPS-based field data collection tools
  • Basic GIS skills (ArcGIS)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in fieldwork and data management
