The Field Operations team maintains our unique water distribution and wastewater collection systems to make sure we can deliver on our mission to provide water and wastewater services to the community. We are looking for a versatile and hands-on Field Operations Supervisor to lead an experienced team, uphold regulatory standards, protect critical infrastructure, and deliver outstanding service to our customers. This is a unique opportunity to combine leadership and technical expertise in a role that makes a visible impact every day.

Day to Day

  • Collaboratively directs and coordinates the daily work of the Field Operations department including assigning, prioritizing, and inspecting work for compliance with prescribed operational procedures and methods.
  • Supervises, trains, instructs, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
  • Routinely supervises various field work that can range from daily tasks to emergency repairs.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates work processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), systems, and staffing to achieve district and department goals.
  • Prepares, reviews, and maintains a wide variety of written reports and records, including work project analyses, surveys, work order progress and status reports, maintenance requests, equipment specifications, and operating costs.
  • Coordinates activities with other District departments to identify, define, and resolve system problems or emergencies.
  • Provides shift coverage as needed and responds to emergency situations. This supervisor will participate in an on-call rotation and will need to coordinate time off with lead operators, other supervisors, and the manager to provide sufficient staffing coverage Occasional weekend and/or holiday work is required.
  • Collaboratively determine schedules and assign work orders.
  • May serve as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC).
  • Responsible for carrying out the District’s safety program by ensuring employees follow safety practices in work methods and procedures.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Experience: At least four years of technical experience required, or bachelor’s degree and two years of field management experience. Preferably, at least four years in Distribution and Collection operations and a bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering.
  • Licenses: Colorado Certified Water Professionals (CCWP) Water Distribution System Operator and Wastewater Collection System Operator Certifications or ability to work towards once eligible to test.
  • Leadership: Two years leading, developing, and coordinating people in a team-based environment. Experience directing day-to-day work, organizing, and coordinating schedules. Preferably, leading teams of 10 plus employees.
  • Field Work: Must be comfortable in the field work at all job sites and weather conditions. This split between field and office work can fluctuate with the needs of the department. This working supervisor will assist with projects, day-to-day field work, and complete site visits and inspections, including emergency repairs.
  • Relationship Management: Must be able to build and maintain strong relationships with other district departments, local, and state agencies. Coordination and collaboration skills are essential. A positive attitude and an ability to work honestly, and with integrity required. The ability to work as a member of a team is a must. 
  • Technology: Proficient in use of office equipment, computers, and tablets with some Information System experience is necessary. Experience working with Cityworks or other CMMS required. Distribution and Collection system technology experience is required (pumps, control valves, pressure reducing valves, etc.).   
  • Safety: Must possess a valid Colorado driver license within 30 days of full-time employment and be insurable under district standards. Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification within the first six (6) months of employment. Required to follow all district safety and security policies and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job duties. Ability to work towards CDL.

This supervisor will work Monday – Friday from 7:00 – 3:30 regularly. When on-call, you must be able to respond at all times to support the Field Operations team.

Salary Range

The pay range for this role is $97,718 - $146,556. Starting range depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
