We are looking for a Field Operator to join our team! The Field Operations team maintains our complex and unique water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanically inclined self-starter looking to develop their skills and join a team of experts in the industry. This person will spend the majority of their time working outside in the field, but it does have a mix of field and administrative work.

Day to Day:

  • Operations: Perform repairs and maintenance on District water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including fire hydrants, mains, valves, sewer lines, manholes, and lift stations, using both hand tools and heavy equipment. Assist experienced Field Operators with service line locates, taps, and leak detection using specialized equipment including correlators, sound detectors, and sewer cameras.
  • Maintenance & Equipment Use: Operate tools and machinery such as backhoes, dump trucks, jetting trucks to inspect, clean, and maintain system infrastructure safely and efficiently.
  • Work Orders & Asset Management: Create and complete work orders, update asset data, and track progress in CityWorks to ensure accurate maintenance records.
  • Testing and Inspection: Support fire hydrant flow tests, fire line flush tests, and other system performance assessments to help ensure water reliability and fire protection.
  • Documentation: Access and reference customer service documents, equipment specifications, and maintenance data to organize and communicate work clearly and professionally.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with colleagues and the public while modeling the District’s mission, vision, and values through accountability, integrity, and a positive attitude.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical experience working with pumps, motors, seal replacements, or other relevant mechanical skills preferred.
  • Must be comfortable performing repetitive preventive maintenance tasks, including turning valves, jetting, CCTV work, and fire hydrant maintenance.
  • Colorado Distribution and Collection Licenses preferred. Must be able to obtain Colorado Distribution I and Collection I certifications within one year of start date.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license and be insurable under District's standards. Must obtain a class “B” Commercial Driver’s License or higher within two years of employment.
  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

Schedule

This role will work Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Schedules will vary slightly based on work location. Occasional overtime and participating in an on-call rotation are required. Field Operators are required to be on call in one-week segments once every 6-8 weeks with a one-hour response time.

Salary Range

There are four levels of Field Operator with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The District will support you in earning your licenses. Pay range and title depend on certifications and experience. Starting range depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and midpoint of the pay range. Pay ranges for each level are as follows:

  • Operator I: $27.47 - $38.45
  • Operator II (requires CCWP Operator C License): $30.28 - $42.40
  • Operator III (requires CCWP Operator B License): $31.79 - $44.51
  • Senior Operator: (requires CCWP Operator A License): $36.81 - $51.53
