Montana Conservation Voters

Required Experience 0 - 1 years

Montana Conservation Voters and its affiliated state political action committee, the MCV Action Fund, seek motivated Field Organizers to engage Montanans one-on-one on a variety of vital conservation issues important to protecting Montana as the Last Best Place. This boots-on-the-ground role requires passion, organization and the ability to work on one's own.

Montana Conservation Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)4 membership organization whose mission is to protect our clean air, clean water, public lands and democracy by supporting leaders who fight for these rights and by holding accountable leaders who do not.

Our community field operation will empower Montanans and amplify their voices by engaging voters in their neighborhoods on a range of key conservation issues directly impacting their community, as well as the importance of electing pro-conservation candidates endorsed by MCV. Field Organizers will be part of a small team committed to enthusiastically sharing and protecting Montana values. This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to get more engaged and shape the future of Montana. MCV will provide leadership training and professional growth opportunities.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Knocking on Montanans’ doors and having guided conversations with them about conservation issues and MCV-endorsed candidates
  • Keeping accurate data of conversations and constituents
  • Assisting with recruitment of other organizers and canvassing volunteers
  • Writing letters to the editor, appearing on social media posts, distributing printed materials and other grassroots outreach as needed
  • Helping organize events
  • Calling volunteers and Montanans to talk to them about endorsed candidates and issues

  • A strong commitment to MCV’s mission and goals
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills while also being a self-motivator
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to listen to and learn from constituents while staying on message about conservation issues across Montana
  • Access to reliable transportation and a smartphone or tablet that can be used while canvassing
  • Demonstrated professionalism, dependability, and punctuality
  • Ability to work up to 39 hours per week. Evening shifts Monday through Thursday are from 11am-7pm. Weekend shifts are Saturday or Sunday 11am-7pm.

Field Organizers should expect to travel within their community. Field Organizers will work outside at least 80% of their workday and be on their feet walking for at least 80% of each work shift.

Recruiting staff who better reflect Montana is a priority for MCV, and we encourage applicants from all cultures, races, ethnicities, geographies, and all other identities. Women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.

MCV offers a competitive hourly wage of $25 per hour with bonus opportunities. Field Organizers can work up to 39 hours a week and are eligible for partial reimbursement of individual health insurance premiums.
