JOB TITLE: Field Crew Leader

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Field Team Crew Leader reports directly to the Director of Field Operations and is managed on a daily basis by the Field Operation Managers. Crew Leaders are responsible for overseeing the work of a crew of 2-3 members. This position focuses on organizational field work including but not limited to the following programs: Tree watering & maintenance, Root Nashville tree plantings & delivery, stream restoration, green infrastructure builds and ongoing maintenance, and stream cleanups. A crewleader is also responsible for almost daily truck and trailer operation. The Field Crew Leader ensures that the Field Crew upholds the Cumberland River Compact’s values while working in highly visible public places. The values include hard work, love of the environment, and respect for the people we serve.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

General

  • Serves as a key component to the Tree Care Program’s day-to-day watering through the months of May and September
  • Assists with tree care activities in winter and spring, including mulching and pruning
  • Aids in Fall and Winter tree deliveries and planting
  • Employee may assist with other field programs, as needed by the organization, such as:
    • Assist in large-scale clean-ups to meet grant deliverables
    • Ability to assist in Green Infrastructure stormwater buildouts and retrofits
    • Assists as field help in stream restoration projects
    • Work with staff on various other grant deliverables that require hands on labor

Leadership

  • Lead crewmembers in daily operations, including quality control, training, punctuality and safety
  • Perform daily vehicle & trailer inspections
  • Operate trucks and trailers, and if certified, other heavy equipment 
  • Possess or be willing to learn horticultural knowledge pertaining to tree species identification, health indicators, and other botanical information. 
  • Report injuries, equipment issues, or unresolved employee disputes to the Field Operations Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This is a field position. A successful applicant will enjoy working outside through the seasons
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day
  • Interest in environmental causes a plus
  • Must be a team player and also be able to work independently
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks, assignments, and priorities
  • Experience with light truck and trailer operation (No CDL Requirement)
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred or otherwise demonstrated leadership qualities
