The Southern Plains and Rio Grande Fire Groups are hiring a seasonal Fire Effects and Fuels Monitoring Wildland Firefighter! This 6-month position will be from April-September and will be based out of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area in Fritch, TX.
Primary duties involve monitoring vegetation in post-fire landscapes within National Park Service (NPS) units across the Southern Plains and Rio Grande Valley. This involves travel to those units and field work to collect data. Field work consists of hiking to plots and utilizing a variety of protocols to assess fire effects to vegetation and fuels. Additional duties include data entry and review, prescribed fire operations and fire suppression.
This is a primary fire position, and you will be required to pass a drug test and physical prior to your start date. Once hired, you will need to complete the arduous pack test to obtain a red card. The arduous pack test consists of a 3 mile walk in 45 minutes with a 45-pound vest on.
