Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

This is a full time, Limited Duration position located in Idleyld Park, Oregon.

The anticipated employment dates are October 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027.

We will also consider a Job Rotation for current, regular status employees of the State of Oregon in good standing in a permanent or limited duration position (not temporary or seasonal) that is expected to continue through at least June 30, 2027. What you will do:

As the Rock Creek Hatchery Manager, you will supervise, manage, plan, coordinate and direct the operation and maintenance of a fish hatchery and trapping facility. Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, develop and implement assigned hatchery production.
  • Develop and implement hatchery specific operating policies and implement procedures
  • Handling of anadromous and resident domestic and wild adult salmonid broodstock.
  • Supervise employees
  • Develop and implement goals: affirmative action, safety, hazardous materials handling, ADA
  • Oversee and participate in fish culture activities
  • Oversee maintenance and operation of water system
  • Oversee maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

To meet the qualifications, applicants must meet at least one of the following options:

  • Option 1: An Associate degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture or Aquarium Science AND three years and six months of fish culture (care of fish) experience ( eighteen months of fisheries, wildlife or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience);
  • Option 2: A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework AND two years of fish culture (care of fish) experience (twelve months of fisheries, wildlife or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience);
  • Option 3: Five years of fish culture (care of fish) experience (two years of fisheries, wildlife or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience).

NOTE: The required experience must have included two years of lead work or supervisory experience.
