GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking one (1) twelve month contract Fish Culture Specialist at the Clark’s Fork Fish Hatchery. Under supervision, work will include but not be limited to various spawning activities, tank cleaning, feeding, sample counts, fish inventories, feed calculations, fish stocking, assisting other Department hatcheries as needed, maintaining equipment such as pumps, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and pressure washers. Other work will include maintaining the facility grounds and buildings. This position may participate with the weekend work rotation to monitor the fish culture facility seven days a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Completing necessary fish culture duties that will include daily fish and egg monitoring activities, tank cleaning, fish feeding, egg, fry, and juvenile fish care, sampling, inventories, feed calculations, spawning, and fish stocking.
- Maintenance to various pieces of equipment, and the facility grounds and buildings.
- Working independently or as part of a team.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or a closely related field.
**Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Principles, concepts, and practices of fish propagation and/or management.
- Oral and written communications.
- Computers and various computer software.
- Maintenance of small engines and lawn equipment.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to operate various pieces of equipment, which may include 4WD vehicles, tractors, pumps, pressure washers, lawnmowers, weed eater, and chainsaw.
- Some occasional lifting will be required.
- Working outdoors in adverse weather conditions for prolonged time periods.
- Responding to facility needs, day or night.
NOTES:
- FLSA: non-exempt
- On-site housing is provided at no expense to the employee and is a condition of employment.
- If chosen for the position, successful applicants must pass a background check before being hired.
- This is a 12 month contract position (At-Will Employee Contract) at the Clark’s Fork Fish Hatchery.
- The position start date will be approximately December 1, 2025 and will end June 30, 2026. The contract may be renewed for another 12 months on July 1, 2026.
