Organization Description:

 

From sandy beaches and salt marshes to freshwater swamps and farmland, the Coastal Conservation League is working to respond to rapid growth and development, as well as impacts from a changing climate on the South Carolina coastal plain. We work from our headquarters in Charleston, our legislative office in Columbia, our South Coast office in Beaufort, which covers Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, and Hampton counties, our North Coast office, which works across Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Williamsburg, and Florence counties, and our food hub, GrowFood Carolina, in Charleston. Our team of professionals works across the coastal plain to promote clean energy, protect land, water and wildlife, build strong cities and towns, and support local food and farmers to build healthy, resilient communities.

Summary:

The Grants Manager is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, developing grant proposals, overseeing the grant application process, and managing awarded grants that support the organization’s mission and initiatives as well as ensuring compliance with all grant requirements.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from a variety of sources to include, but not limited to, government agencies, private foundations, and corporations.
  • Maintain internal communications with program staff to identify and qualify funding opportunities with foundations, governmental agencies, corporate, and other institutional funding organizations.
  • Establish, maintain, and periodically update a multi-year funding opportunity pipeline and grants production, submission, and reporting schedule.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff to gather information and ensure proposals align with organizational goals and funder requirements.
  • Establish a production and review schedule for all proposals and reports to be submitted, alerting all relevant staff of deadlines and input needs to ensure that all deadlines and requirements are met.
  • Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, including writing, budgeting, and assembling required documentation.
  • Work with the program and finance teams to develop grant budgets.
  • Submit grant applications and reports in a timely manner, adhering to funder guidelines and deadlines.
  • Manage awarded grants, including working with the finance team to ensure tracking of grant expenditures, preparing and submitting progress reports, and ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.
  • Work with Communications Team to ensure acknowledgment of funders via website, e-newsletter, and social media, as appropriate and in accordance with funder guidelines and requirements.
  • Maintain the database of grant information to include but not limited to opportunities, deadlines, grant support documents, passwords, and other appropriate information.
  • Maintain and manage complete and meticulous grant/contract records and files in accordance with both relevant funders’ requirements and the Coastal Conservation League’s record-keeping policies.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, including government agencies, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for grant-related inquires and communications.
  • Provide training and support to program staff on grant writing, reporting, and compliance.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices with grant management and funding opportunities.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum three to five years of relevant experience, including grant writing and management and/or contract management.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Preferred five to seven years of relevant experience.
  • Budget and workplan development.
  • Constituent relationship management software/database experience (e.g., EveryAction, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge).
  • Project management applications or tools (e.g. Asana, Basecamp, Monday.com).

The position operates in a professional office environment located in Charleston, SC.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and climb stairs.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Travel

Some local travel may be required.
