Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, environmental sciences, natural resources, or a similar field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, Writing, or a related field paired with applicable natural resources experience will be accepted. Four years of relevant work experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree in the fields listed.
  • A minimum of 2 years of successful, relevant grant writing experience, including government reimbursement based grants and private foundations. 

Job Responsibilties:

Grant Prospecting - Estimated 15% of time

  • Research new and prospective grant and funding opportunities that align with SSS’s mission and programs, projects, and strategic plan
  • Expand SSS’s relationship with possible funders

Grant Writing - Estimated 40% of time

  • Write compelling grant applications and proposals, ensuring that all submissions are accurately formatted and include required information and materials
  • Collaborate with relevant staff to collect and synthesize data, solicit timely input/review of grant applications prior to deadlines

Grants Management and Reporting - Estimated 20% of time

  • Oversight of all organizational grants and timelines
  • Develop and maintain grant tracking procedures and systems, including grants in the pipeline
  • Utilize Network For Good software to track past, present, and potential grant funders
  • Compile and manage grant reporting including tracking timelines for data collection, reporting deadlines, and closing out
  • Provide links between program, finance, and other staff so that all activities related to grant data collection, deliverables and reporting are smoothly implemented and timely
  • Collaborate with finance and program managers to ensure compliance with grant requirements
  • Perform habitat grant invoicing and related duties for specific habitat grants

Grant Budgets Management - Estimated 15% of time

  • Work closely with Project and Program Managers to track individual grant budgets, including providing reports to staff, assist with grant spending and close-out plans
  • Provide monthly grant-specific budget updates to program staff
  • Assist with the development of grant proposal budgets, when needed
  • Assist with rolling up multiple grant and program budgets into the annual organizational budget
  • Maintain knowledge of funder requirements and collaborate with Project Managers to ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant, project, and program budgets.
  • Manage matching funds, provide match documentation, track match to ensure accurate utilization of matching funds, communicate with staff to comply with internal matching fund strategies
  • Work with external grant managers to ensure compliance and accurate tracking

Organization Support & Collaboration - Estimated 10% of time

  • Assist with financial report documents for grant applications, risk assessments, audits
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Attend other meetings, as requested
  • Assist in general office duties as needed
  • Professionally represent SSS in all public activities/job related actions
  • Collaborate with others to tell SSS’s story and communicate SSS’s work to community
  • Maintain strong, effective interpersonal communication and relationships with coworkers
