Head of Education

Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute

Pembroke, Other

Job Type Permanent
Salary Details $125,000 USD
Deadline May 25, 2024
Required Experience 7+ years

Since inception, BUEI has been a bridge between classroom learning and real-world application. We believe two things: People need connection to care about the environment.  And that learning leads to doing.

The role of Head of Education is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our local population.  As an organization, we are uniquely positioned to address environmental challenges and capitalize on the opportunities of our interconnected community through our educational programmes.

We are a respected provider of ocean literacy and environmental education, and our education programmes and activities focus on the local perspective within a global framework:

  • Globally, our offerings support outcomes under UN Sustainable Development Goals in the areas of Quality Education, Life Below Water, Climate Action, and Life on Land.
  • Locally, our classes, labs, workshops, and sessions serve students in public and private schools and the home-school network.

Our programmes align with Bermuda’s public-school curriculum:

  • We are a STEM class provider for the Government signature school programme.
  • We facilitate Educator classes and workshops to ensure teachers have a variety of support tools to positively inform student learning outcomes.

In 2023, we had 7344 and educator student participants in our programmes.  In the first quarter of this year alone, participation has increased by 50.5% over the same period last year!

The impact of our efforts to connect learning with acting have been recognized and celebrated by the community and our peers, and we’ve received numerous awards for our programming.  Most notably, in 2022 BUEI received the 2023 'Michael Darling Heritage Education Award' from The Bermuda National Trust, their pinnacle award for Environmental Education. BUEI is the first non-school awardee since the award’s inception in 1990.

BUEI honours everyone’s unique entry point into this vital conversation as our approach is to invite them in vs. calling them out.
