Our premier Reserve, Vermejo, is currently seeking a passionate and skilled Hunt Guide who is eager to help our guests explore the natural and biodiversity of outdoors in a responsible and exhilarating way. 

ABOUT THE POSITION
As a Hunt Guide, you will lead guests on hunting expeditions through the pristine lands surrounding Vermejo. You will be responsible for ensuring safety, providing expert guidance, and delivering an experience that is respectful of our natural environment.  Your role will also involve educating guests about local wildlife, conservation efforts, and the unique ecology of our region.

You will also be responsible for: 

  • Building strong relationships with guests, addressing their needs and providing exceptional customer service to ensure a positive and memorable experience.
  • Guiding guests on big game hunts, ensuring safety and satisfaction in their experience.
  • Representing Ted Turner Reserves in a positive manner, promoting the Reserves sustainability and conservation mission.
  • Taking proper care of assigned equipment (vehicles, tools, firearms, etc.) to ensure it is clean, safe, and suitable for guest transportation and satisfaction.
  • Ensuring cleanliness of assigned accommodations.
  • Assisting with game retrieval, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and other tasks related to guiding.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What this isn’t:

  • A management or supervisory position

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Proven experience in hunting and guiding, with a strong track record of safety and customer satisfaction. 
  • Extensive knowledge of western big gam hunting for elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and turkey.
  • Knowledge and experience using game calls and safe handling of firearms.
  • Experience caring for harvested animals.
  • This position requires operation of vehicles, and you’ll need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.  Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider.
  • You’ll need to present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire pursuant to federal law.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 
  • Archery hunting and equipment experience.
  • Relevant certifications in hunting safety and first aid.
  • Experience working in a luxury hospitality setting.

ACCOMMODATIONS

This position will require you to live on Vermejo headquarters, located approximately 40 miles from the closest town (Raton, NM). Vermejo’s location is approximately 4.5 hours’ drive south of Denver or 4.5 hours’ drive north of Albuquerque.

Vermejo offers single- and double-bedroom dorm room style company housing (subject to availability). You may be subject to sharing a room with one other employee depending on the availability of a single dorm room.

You will need to provide or arrange for your own transportation to and from Raton for personal supplies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

On a regular basis, you can expect to:

  • Stand; walk; move hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
  • Be on your feet for extended periods of time.

You will be occasionally required to sit. You can expect to frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

You may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; high mountainous terrain with elevation up to 10,000 feet; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and extreme heat and be required to spend long hours outdoors under inclement conditions. You will be occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
