Are you interested in a career in natural resources, agriculture, or conservation science? The Jefferson County Weed District, in partnership with Montana Conservation Corps (MCC), is seeking a motivated and curious Conservation Intern (CI) to join our team in Whitehall, Montana.
This position offers a unique blend of fieldwork, scientific learning, and community outreach with a focus on integrated weed management—particularly using biological control agents like insects, mites, and fungi to combat invasive plants.
Position Overview
The Conservation Intern will spend part of their time working with and job shadowing the Weed Coordinator, and a majority of their time with the Whitehall Project Coordinator and crew. Duties will include:
- Participating in public education events about noxious weeds and integrated weed management
- Gaining hands-on experience in:
- Bioagent mass rearing
- Field collection and redistribution of biological control agents
- Monitoring long-term effectiveness of biocontrol efforts
- Touring and assisting with various biological control research projects
- Engaging with community members, landowners, and partner organizations
This is a field-based role and will require time outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Program Details (through Montana Conservation Corps)
- Term Dates: Flexible start date, ideally early June, through late-August 2025
- Living Allowance: $1,120 bi-weekly
- AmeriCorps Education Award: $1,956.35 upon successful completion

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum age of 17
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Commitment to the full term of service
- Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
- Strong interest in environmental stewardship and community service
- Physically able to meet fieldwork demands (hiking, lifting, working outdoors)
- Personal transportation required
