Lake Court Liaison (NPS, Lake Mead NRA)

The Research Associate Program at GBI, in cooperation with the National Park Service at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, is recruiting a Court Liaison. This position will provide administrative support to the Lake Mead Evidence Technician and Court Office Program. This work will involve evidence and court case management along with other associated duties as assigned. Other opportunities available if interested such as dispatch call taking and preventative search and rescue programs
Primary Responsibilities:
These duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Moving evidence for short term to long term storage;
- Reviewing criminal dispositions in order to return items to their owners or send items for destruction;
- Inventorying Firearms and other evidence, documenting if an owner can or cannot be located and coordinating the return or destruction of the firearm;
- Correspondence with courts, law enforcement departments, attorney offices and defendants by phone, email or regular mail regarding the disposition of evidentiary items; and
- Printing and filing documents.
Timeline:
- August 4th 2025- December 30th, 2025; 22 weeks with strong possibility of extension for an additional 82 weeks;
- Full time (40 hours/week); and
- Schedule: Flexible but generally Monday – Friday 8 hours per day.
Location:
Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompasses nearly 1.5 million acres in southeastern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, including mountains, canyons, valleys, and two vast lakes. From the mouth of the Grand Canyon, the park follows the Arizona-Nevada border along what was formerly 140 miles of the Colorado River. Opportunities for recreation abound.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE) Headquarters is in Boulder City, Nevada, a 30-minute drive from Las Vegas. LAKE encompasses nearly 1.5 million acres in southeastern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, including mountains, canyons, valleys, and two vast lakes.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: $25 hourly;
Benefits:

Housing: May be available to the selected participant at additional costs. It would likely be shared housing with a private room located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Qualifications:
Technical requirements:
- Ability to obtain security clearance through the Department of Interior;
- Must have a valid state driver’s license;
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing;
- Must have basic computer and typing skills;
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, and Excel;
- Ability to categorize, file documents and organize evidence and maintain a chain of custody record(s) for court purposes;
- Motivated, self-starter, detail oriented, and possess good organizational skills; and
- Willingness to work independently or with and on interdisciplinary teams to support the mission of NPS and GBI and accomplish targeted goals and objectives.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, stand, walk, bend, and have specific vision abilities to include close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus working with computer business equipment and other job/industry specific equipment. The overall nature of the (Indoors/Office) position is sedentary, requiring little physical effort and occasional light exertion. There is occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and temperature changes. There is some lifting, carrying and moving items of up to 30 pounds without assistance.
