Avalon Plantation is located between Lamont and Monticello, Florida and is approximately 35 minutes from the capital city of Tallahassee. It is in the Red Hills region of Florida which is known for its rich biodiversity, rolling hills and red clay. The property primarily operates as a hunting property managed for the production of quail, timber and other wildlife.
Avalon is a spectacular 20,000-acre plantation that includes longleaf and other pine, old oaks, natural lakes, plenty of habitat for quail, deer other species of wildlife. The property hosts programs to help restore the Gopher Tortoise and the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Land Management Technician plays a vital, hands-on role in preserving the beauty, productivity, and ecological integrity of Avalon Plantation. From habitat enhancement and equipment operation to guest support, this dynamic position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety, takes pride in responsibility, and has a passion for the outdoors.
As a Land Management Technician, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Operating farm tractors to support key projects such as blocking, mowing, establishing firebreaks, maintaining feed trails, supplemental feeding, and disking layout fields.
- Using heavy equipment to clear, rake, and pile vegetation and debris for controlled burning.
- Applying knowledge of agricultural practices including disking, planting, and spraying for land and habitat management.
- Assisting with prescribed burning operations using ATVs/UTVs and other fire tools.
- Performing daily tasks such as feeding horses and dogs, invasive species control, fence line maintenance, trapping, and equipment upkeep.
- Supporting groundskeeping efforts, including mowing, weed eating, trimming, and pressure washing facilities and common areas.
- Handling and maintaining firearms, including shotguns and rifles; may guide guests during managed hunting activities.
- Assisting with general logistical support including errands, airport pickups, and other tasks as needed.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- A high school diploma or GED is required; one to three months of related experience and/or training is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Experience operating heavy equipment is a plus; proficiency with ATVs and UTVs is highly desirable.
- Firearms experience is required, with the ability to handle shotguns and rifles safely and confidently.
- Prior experience with horses is essential, including the ability to ride horseback during quail hunts when needed.
- This position requires the operation of vehicles, and you’ll need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider
- You’ll need to present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire pursuant to federal law

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
On a regular basis, you can expect to:
- Stand; sit; walk; move hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- Operate an ATV, UTV or heavy equipment
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
On a frequent basis, you can expect to:

On an occasional basis, you can expect to:
- Saddle and ride horses.
- Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
You will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. You will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. You will occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, except when working around firearms or motorized equipment.
