Wood River Land Trust protects and restores land, water, and wildlife habitat in the Wood River Valley and its surrounding areas. We are seeking two qualified internship candidates with backgrounds or interests in environmental conservation and land stewardship. An internship with the Wood River Land Trust offers the opportunity to learn about land management and stewardship, community outreach, and community conservation in a hands-on setting. The Wood River Land Trust is located in scenic south-central Idaho, near Sun Valley and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
Land Steward Intern duties:
• Perform weed control (herbicide application & physical removal) (40%);
• Assist staff with managing Wood River Land Trust preserves according to management plans, which includes data collection, trail maintenance and construction, maintaining dog-waste stations, planting trees, and other restoration work (35%);
• Assist staff with community conservation outreach, river restoration projects, and habitat monitoring (10%);
• Assist staff with preserve and conservation easement monitoring, which includes collecting and updating digital records and GIS files (10%); and
• Assist and participate in educational programs, events, and coordinating volunteers (5%).
Requirements:
• Physically able to perform strenuous work in an outdoor setting, in all weather conditions;
• Ability to use herbicide to treat noxious weeds, including wearing a backpack sprayer weighing up to 50 lbs., often in hot and dry conditions over uneven and steep ground;
• Flexibility and willingness to work on occasional evenings/weekends;
• A driver’s license and good driving record (vehicle provided for work use); and
• Ability to work in groups and individually.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Educational background in natural resources, conservation, or similar field;
• Strong verbal communication, community outreach, and writing skills;
• Flexibility and versatility;
• Interest in private land conservation;
• Experience with GPS, Microsoft Office;
• Experience with ArcGIS Pro;
• Trailer and ATV experience; and
• Local plant identification.
