About Westmoreland Land Trust
The Westmoreland Land Trust (WLT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving and stewarding land of ecological, cultural, and recreational value for public benefit. Since its founding, WLT has permanently protected over 700 acres in Westmoreland County through purchase or donation. Our flagship public-access properties include the 350-acre Saint Xavier Nature Preserve, Ackermann Nature Preserve, Meadowlark Nature and Art Park, and Twin Lakes Meadow. In addition to land protection, WLT provides nature education programming at its preserves and across all Westmoreland County School Districts.

As our portfolio of conserved land grows, we are seeking a motivated professional to help steward these landscapes and implement transformative projects that increase public access and ecological sustainability.

Position Summary
The Land Stewardship and Projects Coordinator plays a central role in advancing WLT’s mission by overseeing the stewardship of conserved properties and coordinating improvement projects across our preserves. This position combines boots-on-the-ground land management with project coordination and community engagement. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to conservation, with the ability to move projects from planning to implementation. This role works closely with the Executive Director, staff, contractors, volunteers, and partners to translate plans into action and ensure that conserved land is ecologically healthy and welcoming to the public.

Key Responsibilities

Land Stewardship

  • Oversee stewardship and management of conserved properties
  • Conduct routine property monitoring in accordance with stewardship plans
  • Plan and implement property stewardship initiatives, including but not limited to, invasive species management, native plantings, trail maintenance, and habitat restoration work
  • Coordinate contractors and vendors for stewardship-related projects
  • Administer the hunting permit program in accordance with organizational policies

Project Implementation

  • Coordinate the implementation of public access improvement and capital projects
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and timelines
  • Support grant-funded project compliance and documentation

Volunteer Engagement

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for stewardship and property improvement activities
  • Organize and implement volunteer work days and activities
  • Participate in outreach events, site visits, and public programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/studies, ecology, project management, conservation, natural resources, parks and recreation, or related field
  • Experience with land stewardship, project coordination, & volunteer coordination preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions
  • Availability to work occasional weekends as needed for volunteer events or programs
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the county

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $53,000 - $58,000
