About Us
Winter Wildlands Alliance (WWA) is on a mission to inspire and empower people to protect America’s wild snowscapes. From the Northern Appalachians to the Rockies to the Brooks Range in Alaska, we advocate for policies that ensure wild places and upper watersheds remain accessible, protected and stewarded for generations to come. Our work isn’t just about winter recreation; it’s about stewardship and safeguarding the health and sustainability of public lands and winter ecosystems—for wildlife, climate resilience and people. Our Alliance includes 33 local grassroots affiliates in 14 states. Key programs include SnowSchool, engaging 35,000 K-12 students each winter at 70 active sites in 17 states, and our annual Backcountry Film Festival, reaching over 40,000 attendees at over 100 screenings nationwide (+ Antarctica).
Our staff and board are made up of people from all different backgrounds. Our commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) is woven throughout our programs, internal training, year-round community events, digital and print communications, and staff and board meetings. At Winter Wildlands Alliance, we build leaders and we are problem solvers; our culture sets us apart and influences everything we do. Snow is fun and working at Winter Wildlands is too.
