This position is assigned to Ute Lake State Park. The park ranger MEO serves the agency mission by enforcing park rules, regulations, and laws and ensuring the safety of visitors and protection of park resources. The ranger provides customer service assisting park visitors through selling permits, providing information, and maintaining order in the park. Additionally this position assists with supervision of seasonal and volunteer positions.
State Park Law Enforcement (LE) Ranger¿s work to patrol and manage New Mexico State Parks and the resources within, to include ensuring the preservation and regulation of outdoor recreational activities and natural resources. Park LE Rangers have full law enforcement authority within New Mexico State Parks and are charged with keeping the peace therein. Law enforcement authority also includes statewide jurisdiction and primary enforcement of the Boat Act.
Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice and/or wildlife management. Must be a certified NM peace officer.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of parks and recreation management with experience in Law Enforcement.
- The candidate must be able to perform in stressful situations requiring prompt decision making with significant consequences.
- The candidate must have excellent communication, organizational skills, and be able to provide outstanding customer service.
- The ideal candidate will have extensive boating experience in various weather conditions.
Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice, or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be a certified NM peace officer.
