About Muddy Sneakers:
Muddy Sneakers is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a love of learning and a connection to nature within elementary school students through experiential, inquiry-based outdoor education.
Position Summary:
The Core Instructor I is a passionate and dedicated individual who thrives in an outdoor setting and is committed to delivering high-quality environmental education programs to elementary school students. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of natural sciences, and a genuine enthusiasm for connecting children with the wonders of the natural world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on outdoor education programs that align with Muddy Sneakers' curriculum and pedagogy.
- Lead Instructor Role: Serve as the primary liaison with assigned schools, cultivating positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
- Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of Muddy Sneakers' curriculum, including print, digital, and multimedia resources.
- Program Logistics: Assist with the planning and logistics of program delivery, including scheduling, equipment management, and transportation.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance instructional skills and knowledge of environmental education best practices.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Collect and submit program data, including student observations, photographs, and anecdotal records.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with fellow instructors, program managers, and administrative staff to ensure program success.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with elementary school-aged children in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of natural science concepts and principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- North Carolina residency required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Environmental Educator certification (or commitment to obtaining).
- Experience developing and delivering outdoor education programs.
- Familiarity with North Carolina's natural ecosystems.
