The Natural Resources Technician will assist with various aspects of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (SFS) Environmental Program with a focus on population assessments and population monitoring. This position is in-person, full-time, Monday-Friday for the full duration.
Duration: NTE 215 working days
General tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Wildlife surveys and/or management
- Threatened and endangered species monitoring and/or management
- Field-data collection, entry, and/or management
- Writing and editing technical reports
- Data analysis and/or mapping using ArcGIS
- Update and/or maintain plan (Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan, site inspections and/or monitoring, Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, Avenza Maps, or other data form development
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Sea turtle nest density and productivity monitoring
- Florida scrub-jay population assessments including assisting with banding individuals
- Southeastern beach mouse population assessments using game cameras and/or track tubes
- Bat monitoring through acoustic detectors and maintaining the detectors
- Shorebird monitoring including nesting and wintering seasons
- Gopher tortoise conservation
- Assist with reviewing and updating the installation’s Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan
Required Job Qualifications:
- Must have an interest in pursuing a career in federal lands management.
- Pursuing a B.S. in natural resources-, cultural resources-, ecosystem science-, or environmental policy-related field (at least a sophomore standing).
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have a valid driver’s license for operating federal vehicles.
- Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense Installation Access Pass.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. citizenship; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Experience collecting field data and entering data in paper or digital forms.
- Experience using GPS equipment to collect field data.
- Experience flora and/or fauna monitoring or management (specify taxa/ecosystem/regions of prior experience).
- Experience performing habitat restoration or invasive species management.
- Experience with manual labor using powered tools and heavy equipment such as chainsaws, weed-eaters, mowers, tractors, ATVs/UTVs etc.
- Training and experience using GIS software.

Successful candidates will be flexible in assisting with tasks as assigned by the NRM; and they must understand that no two days may be alike and at times the daily tasks can change unpredictably.
