Marin Water protects over 20,000 acres of watershed lands, primarily on Mt. Tamalpais, a biodiversity hotspot. This announcement is for a benefitted 2-year limited term position assisting with vegetation management targeted to start late August/early September. Starting pay is between $4,414 and $5,076 per month, depending on experience and education.
This is a great opportunity for folks who enjoy being outdoors in a diversity of habitats, have some knowledge of plants in natural areas, have a strong work ethic and good attention to detail, and are pursuing a career in conservation/ natural resources management.
The job is about 65% field work. The Natural Resource Technician will have a lead role in implementing invasive plant control including digital recording of field assessments and manual control. A key part of this is directing the seasonal staff to be effective, efficient and safe. Marin Water does not use herbicide. There are a wide variety of other tasks that the tech will help with which may include mapping invasive shrubs, rare plant mapping and protection, oak planting, and vegetation monitoring. The tech may occasionally help other departments (e.g. fisheries, volunteer mgt).
Strong candidates will have a proven track record of working safely outdoors, have some experience with plant ID and invasives removal, demonstrated people skills including directing others, experience with organized and effective project management, are capable of clear communication of questions and observations, have a strong work ethic, and are capable of courteous communication with the recreating public. Coursework or a degree in ecology or related fields is desirable.
The duty station is 49 Sky Oaks Rd, Fairfax, CA, and the incumbent will be required to report to work at that location 5 days a week.
