Description:

Incumbent will be responsible for the operation of a waterfowl hunting check station at one of the Stormwater Treatment Areas (STA) in South Florida for the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Specific duties include opening the STA, checking in permitted hunters, conducting a lottery for unpermitted hunters, correctly identifying and recording species harvested, reporting hunting pressure and harvest results via the internet, and representing the agency in a professional manner while providing service to the public. There are up to five positions to be filled with this announcement, with one-two employees for each check station.

All the STAs are in remote locations with no store/facilities nearby (there is a portable toilet at each site). Hours are on Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday (depending on the STA), starting at 3:45 am until just after sunset each day (approximately 16 hours per day). Hunts occur on weekends from mid-November through mid-February (including holidays). There are scouting days on weekends before each hunting season begins.

STA 2: Located in southwestern Palm Beach County, just north of the Broward County line and just east of US Highway 27. Hunts occur on Saturdays only. A travel trailer with electricity, air conditioning, and restroom may be available for the nights before and after each hunt.

STA 3/4: Located in southwestern Palm Beach County, adjacent to the Broward County line and just west of US Highway 27. Hunts occur on Fridays and Sundays. A travel trailer with electricity, air conditioning, and restroom may be available for the nights before and after each hunt.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in one of the life sciences, reliable transportation, a reliable cell phone, and the ability to work long hours independently once trained. Applicants with waterfowl experience preferred.
