Orcas Field Marketing Fellow

Adventure Scientists

Oregon Coast, Oregon

Job Type Temporary
Salary $2,000 in total for the duration of the project (Nov 25 - Feb 26)

About the Organization

Adventure Scientists is a nonprofit organization on a mission to protect the planet by pairing scientists with individuals uniquely capable of gathering difficult-to-obtain data. Our team collaborates with scientists worldwide to solve pressing environmental challenges, from biodiversity to climate change. Every role here offers a chance to make an impact on a global scale!

About the Role

We’re looking for an Orca Field Marketing Fellow to help us spotlight one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic marine species: the Southern Resident Killer Whales. This seasonal, low-commitment role blends adventure, creativity, and conservation – perfect for someone already spending time on the Oregon coast this winter and who wants to support science in a meaningful way.

You’ll help collect whale sighting data (from a kayak, boat, or even the shore), snap photos, create content and share stories that spark public awareness and action. We’re not looking for full-time field staff but for someone who’s already surfing, paddling, or exploring the coast and would love to get paid a stipend to channel those adventures into inspiring thousands of people to care more deeply about our oceans.

You’ll be supported throughout by our Project Manager and receive a brand toolkit with all the guidance you need.

Responsibilities

  • Collect observational data while out doing what you already love: kayaking, sailing, surfing, or just scanning the horizon. (Read more about the project here)
  • Participate in at least 5 field days per month (flexible timing, spread them out as you wish)
  • Capture and deliver weekly content (5–10 photos, 1 short video/reel, and 1 social media draft post)
  • Identify and attend 2–3 local events (tickets are on us)
  • Act as a brand ambassador: post flyers, chat with local businesses, meet potential volunteers
  • Share positive environmental messages in person and online
  • Submit deliverables on time and aligned with our content guidelines (we’ll provide a toolkit!)

Skills & Requirements

  • Expertise in content creation (with a professional camera or great quality camera phone) and storytelling through photography and short-form video.
  • Based in or able to spend at least 5 days/month on the Oregon coast between November 2025 and February 2026
  • Passion for marine environments, orcas, and conservation science
  • Water-based skills (sea kayaking, sailing, surfing, or similar)
  • Confidence being on camera and engaging with people in person.
  • Positive, energetic, and approachable personality
  • Ability to work independently in field conditions.
  • Able to work independently and stay on top of deadlines
  • Stable internet connection for uploading files

Extra Awesome Qualities

  • Experience with social media growth (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube).
  • Previous involvement in marine biology, conservation, or outdoor science communication.

Location

Field-based on the Oregon Coast, with remote reporting.

Compensation

$2,000 in total for the duration of the contract (November 2025 – February 2026)
