Public Relations & Communications
- Develop and manage strategic communications plans to promote Outdoor Outreach offerings and convert prospects into active participants, volunteers, and donors.
- Manage media outreach—proactively securing opportunities and responding professionally to inquiries.
- Respond to media inquiries promptly, professionally, and in accordance with the organization’s communication guidelines.
- Support staff and volunteers with interview preparation, talking points, and media coaching.
- Oversee all aspects of email marketing, including list segmentation, content, performance tracking, and optimization.
- Create and manage a social media strategy that builds awareness, fosters community, and drives engagement.
- Develop mission-driven content across platforms that resonates with our community and reflects the Federation’s conservation values with authenticity and purpose.
- Represent the Federation at events and provide on-site support to ensure successful outreach and engagement.
Branding
- Craft, edit, and maintain clear, consistent messaging across all marketing and communications materials.
- Uphold brand integrity by ensuring consistent application of visual identity, voice, and messaging guidelines.
- Manage and update Outdoor Outreach web pages to ensure content is current, user-friendly, and aligned with strategic marketing objectives.
- Produce or support the creation of basic graphic assets using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite to enhance visual communication.
Marketing & Advertising
- Design and manage strategic advertising campaigns to support program awareness and participation.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive content calendar spanning social, web, email, and print.
- Monitor campaign performance and adapt strategies based on key metrics and insights.
- Manage all ad placements and ensure timely, brand-aligned delivery.
- Lead campaign projects from concept to execution—on time and within budget.
- Regularly report on results including media coverage, website traffic, email performance, and social metrics.
- Capture marketing assets at outreach events (photos, video, interviews).
- Lead special marketing projects and support other communications efforts as needed.
- Serve as a brand ambassador, communicating a positive conservation message to the public that generates interest and appeal.

Program Growth Strategy & Execution
- Design and implement end-to-end marketing strategies that drive program registration and participation growth.
- Set and monitor KPIs for program-specific campaigns, including leads generated, conversions, registration rates, attendance, and retention.
- Own the marketing funnel for assigned programs, continuously optimizing performance from awareness to conversion.
- Identify and cultivate partnerships that can broaden reach and drive qualified traffic to program offerings.
- Prepare and deliver reports and dashboards for stakeholders, highlighting progress toward growth goals and recommending course corrections when needed.
Market Research & Innovation
- Identify trends and best practices in program marketing to implement innovative approaches that increase reach and impact.
- Monitor competitor activity and adapt marketing strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong emphasis on crafting content that supports recruitment, retention, and reactivation strategies to drive program participation.
- Basic video and graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
- Self-starter with excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Results-driven, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under deadline.
- Photography and/or video production experience is a plus.
- Experience with CRM platforms such as EveryAction and proficiency in broadcast email marketing tools.
- Professional and friendly. Able to handle the day-to-day ups and downs with efficiency, attention to detail, and a sense of humor.
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative, team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and shift priorities quickly and unexpectedly.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to reject setbacks and enthusiastically persist until goals are achieved.
- Resourceful and innovative at tackling challenges in a timely manner.
- Passion for the outdoors and wildlife conservation is highly valued.
- Approaches work from the Federation’s point of view rather than personal point of view.
- Must have a passion for the Federation’s mission.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 5-7+ years of progressive marketing experience; nonprofit or outdoor industry experience preferred.
- Experience in growth marketing, demand generation, or lifecycle marketing preferred with a strong emphasis on performance metrics.
- Proficiency in tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft, Google Analytics, Google Ads, WordPress, SEO, Meta Ads Manager, email marketing platforms, project management software (Monday/Basecamp).
- Occasional travel within Tennesee to cover assignments as directed. A valid TN driver’s license including a good motor vehicle record, and appropriate automobile insurance.
