Wild Arizona
Tucson, Arizona
SUPERVISOR/REPORTS TO: Stewardship Program Director, Conservation Director
CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, 20 hours a week
LOCATION: Remote across Arizona and in Western New Mexico
WILD ARIZONA MISSION STATEMENT & BACKGROUND
Wild Arizona’s mission is to protect, unite, and restore wild lands and waters across Arizona and beyond, for the enrichment and health of all generations, and to ensure Arizona's native plants and animals a lasting home in wild nature.
We organize and amplify multi-community voices of support for legislation and special designations; advocate for conservation science-based environmental policy and planning; and cultivate stewardship, social/environmental awareness, and well-being through outdoor volunteerism, science, traditional ecological knowledge and education.
We seek employees who demonstrate high standards in work quality, diligence, reliability, compassion, excellent judgment, and a desire to care for the environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Outreach Associate is dedicated to planning and implementing high quality interactions with Wild Arizona volunteers, members, and partners while increasing the visibility of the organization amongst the general public. The Outreach Associate’s primary responsibility is to support the Wilderness Stewardship Program and the Wild Connections Program. Program goals include: 1) to conduct on-the ground stewardship projects at a high level of expertise in both front country and remote backcountry settings, 2) to build community capacity to steward wildlands, 2) to ignite care and conservation for wildlands and waters and 3) to build community partnerships and support for stewardship and conservation campaigns.
Responsibilities include managing and creating social media presence, web-presence, electronic communications, and outreach materials for public-facing events and partners.
Our online presence should reflect the strengths of our Wilderness Stewardship professional field crew, which stands out in remote backcountry work with a high degree of skill in traditional hand tools, a culture of inclusivity, and many quirky voices. It should also reflect the strengths of our Wild Connections programs, including science-based work, relationships with indigenous partners, and a rich history of successful protective campaigns including Arizona’s Wilderness protections, National Monuments and Wild And Scenic protections.
The Outreach Associate will work with staff to develop and convey a brand and style for Wild Arizona. They will work with and coordinate staff and crew members in adding content created by distinctive voices. They will spend significant time in the field with the Wild Stew Field Crew, volunteer events and Wild Connections programs so that they understand and are a part of the work we do.
We encourage applicants interested in a full-time position, and who are able and willing to conduct field work, to consider and discuss with us a hybrid role split between Outreach Associate duties and one 80-hour hitch per month on the Wild Stew Field Crew. A full-time classification would receive health insurance benefits.
