Outreach Coordinator Job Description

About the Organization
Inwater Research Group (IRG) fosters marine and coastal conservation through integrated research and education. With expertise in sea turtle assessments, IRG operates long-term research projects and delivers dynamic conservation education programs for diverse audiences. All initiatives emphasize STEM-based, inquiry-driven learning to promote lasting knowledge and behavior change.

Position Type: Full-time, work-from-home with occasional local travel/meetings. Flexible schedule; evening and weekend availability occasionally required.

Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator advances marine conservation through public education and community engagement. This role requires a motivated, independent thinker who can
identify gaps and develop innovative, hands-on programs that inspire stewardship and increase awareness. The ideal candidate will be organized, imaginative, and confident in
delivering presentations, building partnerships, and managing outreach logistics to connect scientific research with public education.

Key Responsibilities

1. Public Engagement & Outreach (25%)

• Develop and lead programs for diverse audiences.
• Represent IRG at events with interactive displays and activities.
• Promote IRG locally by building and maintaining community partnerships.
• Oversee outreach material inventory.

2. Traveling Trunk Programs (30%)

• Manage and expand public trunk program reach across Florida and the U.S.
• Build and maintain educational trunks in collaboration with education team.
• Track inventory, coordinate logistics, and ensure quality control with trunk orders.
• Provide training and support to partners.
• Plan and host educator trainings and field experiences.
• Maintain usage records and feedback for evaluation.

3. Program Expansion & Innovation (20%)

• Identify gaps and co-develop new programs aligned with IRG’s mission.
• Cultivate partnerships that promote programming for diverse audiences.
• Create promotional content (digital and print) to grow public engagement.
• Track participation data and contribute to program reporting.

4. Youth Driven Cinema & Community Development (15%)

• Coordinate and grow Youth Driven Cinema participation.
• Collaborate with partners to promote and launch Youth Driven Cinema.
• Organize workshops, screenings, and community events.
• Build community partnerships to increase reach and diversity.

5. Support Services & Coordination (10%)

• Represent IRG at professional events.
• Write and support grant proposals and donor communications.
• Serve as the point of contact for outreach/curriculum requests and turtle adoptions.
• Assist with fundraising, events, and internal team communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, biological sciences, or related field.
• 3+ years in education, outreach, or program coordination (environmental preferred).
• Experience designing and managing educational outreach programs.
• Skilled in building and maintaining community and partner relationships.
• Creative, solutions-oriented thinker with a track record of innovation.
• Familiarity with sea turtle conservation or Florida ecosystems.
• Ability to travel locally/regionally and lift 70 lb trunks.
• Based in Martin or St. Lucie County.

Skills & Experience

• Self-motivated, dependable, and organized.
• Effective time management and ability to work independently.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Canva.
• Experience in curriculum development, event planning, or grant writing a plus.
• Comfortable working in classrooms, with the public, and on boats.
