Job Description Summary
The Outreach Coordinator serves as a key ambassador for Laguna Canyon Foundation, supporting
our mission by connecting people to the South Coast Wilderness. By coordinating volunteer
programs, public events, and community engagement initiatives, this role strengthens community
involvement and promotes environmental stewardship. The Outreach Coordinator helps build and
sustain an engaged network of volunteers and supporters committed to protecting this landscape.
Working collaboratively with Laguna Canyon Foundation’s partners, the Outreach Coordinator
supports programs from start to finish, including recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers,
as well as contributing to newsletters, social media, and public outreach efforts.
This position helps ensure that volunteer experiences, community events, and communications reflect Laguna
Canyon Foundation’s commitment to conservation, education, and stewardship of our local
22,000-acre coastal sage scrub ecosystem.
The ideal candidate is collaborative, organized, and enthusiastic about connecting people to
nature, with a passion for environmental education and community building. Regular Saturday
and occasional evening availability is required to support programs and events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with partner organizations to recruit, train, and support LCF volunteers.
- Coordinate, schedule, post, and advertise volunteer programs, opportunities, and events.
- Support Laguna Canyon Foundation’s volunteer Board members.
- Manage community and volunteer appreciation events, tabling, and other engagements.
- Assist the Development & Communications Department with generating social media and
web content. - General administrative duties as assigned.
- Assist with education tasks and potentially teach school field trip programs as needed.
- Work shifts on weekends and some evenings are required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and executing events, volunteer programs, or
community outreach. - Experience in conservation, marketing, and social media engagement preferred.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and build positive relationships with
volunteers, partners, and community members. - Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills and the ability to
manage multiple priorities independently while working effectively within a team. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and videoconferencing platforms;
ability to quickly learn and navigate new systems and tools. - Familiarity with WordPress, Smartsheet, Adobe Creative suite/Photoshop, Canva, and/or
Volgistics is a plus. - Access to a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license and required insurance coverage, and
willingness to use a vehicle for work purposes (mileage reimbursement available). - Interest in environmental stewardship and commitment to continuous learning.
