Citizens for Superior is searching for a motivated, passionate individual to be our Outreach Coordinator. This part-time position will work with CSCLS’ Director to further the organization’s mission of protecting Lake Superior’s watershed in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula through outreach, fundraising, and programming.
This position is a good fit for someone who is passionate about the environment and community of the Upper Peninsula. The right candidate will be flexible and willing to multi-task, taking on a wide variety of responsibilities that continually evolve. Applicants should have strong communications skills and be very comfortable with below listed computer applications and software.
This position is open until filled, with a start date in mid-summer. Applications will be reviewed and applicants contacted beginning May 9, 2025.
Job Description:
The Outreach Coordinator will report to CSCLS’ Director to complete programming, outreach, and development projects to further the organization’s mission of protecting the Lake Superior watershed within Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Duties include:
- Assisting with grant writing, reporting and fundraising efforts
- Maintaining regular communications with the organization’s support network
- Working with the Director to identify potential new program areas
- Managing and building the organization’s membership
- Creating engaging outreach print media and communications materials
- Developing communications for email and letter campaigns
- Maintaining and building upon the organization’s current volunteer base, including developing and executing events to engage volunteers
- Attending and representing CSCLS at community events, including the Marquette Farmers Market and other local events.
- Developing and fostering good relationships with CSCLS’ network of local residents, organizations, businesses, and government officials
- Assisting with program areas including wetland protection, lakeshore protection, and community environmental initiatives
- Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will:
- Live in Marquette County, Michigan
- Have a genuine commitment to protecting Lake Superior’s watershed in the face of environmental harm.
- Possess great writing and oral communication skills.
- Be able to persuasively communicate in one-to-one and group settings.
- Have good executive, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to think innovatively.
- Be committed to meeting deadlines, detail oriented, willing to take initiative, but also receptive to direction and feedback.
- Be proficient at understanding environmental policies and laws relevant to program areas.
- Have experience with grant writing.
- Proficiently use Canva, Mailchimp, Google Suite of applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.).
- Preference for a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Relevant degree programs include Communications, Environmental Studies/Science, Natural Resources, or similar fields.
- Prior experience with environmental non-profit organizations, a plus.
- Proficiency with GIS, specifically QGIS, is a plus.
Schedule: 15 hours/week, flexible within the hours of 9-5 M-F, with occasional weekend and weeknight responsibilities
Wage: $20/hr
Workplace: Hybrid. Candidate must reside in Marquette County to attend local events, but work is done from home or in public working spaces.
