Who we are:

The City of Albuquerque Open Space Division has been around since 1984, maintaining and managing the open spaces the city has been acquiring since the 1960s. Preserving open spaces during development has been an important goal of the city since then. We have acquired over 24,000 acres and manage 4,000 acres of Open Space land. As Albuquerque continues to grow, we work hard to maintain the native wildlife, cultural resources reflecting the history, and our people’s connection to the natural world. We listen to each other and strive to adapt to the various environmental and social changes of now.

Job Description:

Temporary, 20 hr/week, through Tryfacta, Inc.

As a Park Attendant, you will be charged with:

  • Opening and/or closing parks
  • Sculpting trail structures and fixing issues on trails using hand tools
  • Interacting with the public regarding rules, areas of interest, amenities, etc
  • Removing litter
  • Monitoring wildlife
  • Using GPS and GIS
  • Minor maintenance tasks (fixing fences, painting, etc.)
  • Cleaning facilities
  • Trimming and pruning trees, small plants, and grasses
  • Ensuring emergency responders have access to citizens
  • Writing reports
  • Sow seeds in restoration areas
  • Remove invasive species with assistance
  • Remove graffiti from structures and rocks
  • Inform visitors about the wildlife/trails/geologic features/history of Elena Gallegos and Boca Negra parks

Requirements:

  • Driver’s License
  • Able to work 12:30pm-9:00pm, 10:30am-7:00pm, and/or 6:00am-2:30pm shifts
  • Able to work 20 hours split among 3-4 days (some may be partial shifts)
  • Able to work the required days (we are open 7 days a week) possible days are currently:
    • Saturday PM, Wednesday PM, Thursday PM, Friday PM

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift or move up to 20-50 pounds occasionally, and up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Frequently traverse uneven terrain; balance, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and/or grasp.
  • Have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
  • Receive detailed information through oral or written communication; convey important instructions accurately and effectively.
  • Work outdoors.

Desired Qualifications:

  • New Mexico Driver’s License
  • Experience with any of the following or will train:
    • Customer service or education
    • Trail maintenance
    • Power tools
    • Kind rule enforcement
    • Plants and animals
    • Cultural Artifacts
    • GIS and GPS
    • Report writing
    • Cleaning
    • First Aid/CPR (training available)
