What You'll Be Doing
It is an exciting time to be part of the Crowder County Park and Historic Yates Mill team! We're looking for a Park Technician of Operations with proven skills in equipment maintenance and operations, interpersonal communication, and public relations to join our team. Flexibility will be key to the successful candidate as job tasks shift day-by-day and occasionally hour-by-hour. You’ll have an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of this growing park.
Crowder and Historic Yates Mill County Parks offer our community highly sought-after services such as outdoor recreation, cultural history and environmental education, and nature viewing. As a member of our team, you’ll assist in delivering these services while regularly interacting with our community and supporting daily operations and maintenance of our facilities.
In 2018, Wake County voters passed a $120 million Parks, Greenways, Recreation and Open Space bond. Park improvements are planned at each park including integrating 96 additional acres of land at Crowder County Park and enhancing the visitor experience at both parks. You will be actively involved as we plan the future of these parks.
This position is based at Crowder County Park and offers exciting and unique opportunities at both Historic Yates Mill and Crowder County Parks.
As a Park Technician of Operations you will:
- Assist in daily operations and maintenance of our facilities including grounds, trails, equipment, buildings, picnic areas and playground at both Crowder County Park and Historic Yates Mill County Park
- Provide excellent customer service while ensuring our park facilities are open, clean, and safe for the community to enjoy while being flexible in a dynamic environment to meet the needs of all visitors
- Supervise and mentor our temporary staff (and volunteers) while successfully completing job tasks
- Work closely with the Operations and Maintenance Assistant Park Manager to accomplish park and Division-specific objectives
- Be committed to culturally competent visitor engagement and be able to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic environment to meet the needs of all visitors
- Assist with program development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation at Crowder County Park and Historic Yates Mill County Park
- Support our Communications Team to effectively use print, digital and social media to promote our services
- Assist with EVERYTHING else that it takes to operate a park including opening/closing facilities, janitorial duties, reservation and registration management and more

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience working in a park setting, providing educational programming, maintaining facilities or landscaping
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- CPR certification within one year of employment
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, forestry, natural resource, public history or related education field
- Two years of experience related to this position description including park operations, landscaping, forestry, supervisory, computer skills including Active Net, Office 365
- Proven customer service skills
- Mechanical aptitude with general knowledge of power tools, small engine operation, heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repair
- NC Pesticide Applicators Certification
- Experience teaching recreational, cultural or environmental programs
- Experience with developing marketing materials and using social media platforms to engage audiences

Employment Type: Regular
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week including mornings, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
Hiring Range: 24.72 – 29.36
Market Range: 24.72 - 29.36
