PARKS DIVISION ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – Position # K0244423

This unclassified, permanent, full-time position is in the Parks Division; Pratt Operations Office preferred, but other locations may be negotiable. This position serves as the Assistant Director for the State Parks Division and is supervised by Conner O’Flannagan, Parks Division Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the construction and capital improvement projects of State Parks with the cooperation of the Director, Regional Supervisors, and State Park Managers. Coordinate with Engineering and outside agencies to make sure projects are done in the most cost effective and thorough way.
  • Assist in planning of capital improvement projects and general maintenance of each State Park. Must work to provide goals for each State Park’s projects and timelines to get them completed. Responsible for grant writing for these projects and help with identifying funding sources of these projects. Must provide performance reports submitted each quarter to both Federal and State Agencies that require the reporting process.
  • Direct supervision of Regional Supervisors and Pratt Operations staff. Conducts mid-year and annual performance reviews for these employees. Must remain knowledgeable of Federal and State Regulations and be well versed in grant programs used for matching Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Coordinate with Regional Supervisors and State Park Managers on best practices for state park management, natural resource management and how to manage each in compliance with best practices.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship across the Division, upholding professional standards and reinforcing a strong chain-of-command management structure.
  • Assist in the development, review, and oversight of annual operating budgets. Monitor expenditures and provide fiscal guidance to ensure responsible use of state and federal funds.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of staff training and professional development programs, promoting operational excellence, safety, customer service, and innovation at all levels of the park system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in park and recreation management or natural resource management or other related degrees as determined by the Department
  • Three years of managing a park or other related work experience.
  • Preferred experience in management and broad-based interaction with community organizations
  • Ability to effectively interface with employees and the general public are highly desired.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check are required.
