Position Title: Reforestation Technician Individual Placement – 480 Hour

Position Summary:

Payette National Forest West Zone Silviculture Department is recruiting two 480 Hour (12 week) Individual Placements beginning May 8, 2026 through July 31, 2026. Individual placements will complete field surveys to monitor forest regeneration after wildfire and timber harvest and make recommendations for tree planting. Individual placements will also develop a cone monitoring and collection program to provide the seed we need for future tree planting, among other reforestation-related and silviculture activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific activities include:

  • Reforestation assessment surveys (60%)
  • Stand data collection (20%)
  • Other activities as assigned such as: working in a greenhouse nursery, timber marking/cruising, data management (10%)
  • Training and professional development (10%)

Required Qualifications:

  • Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
  • U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
  • Must pass a background/driver check
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License

Desired Qualifications:

  • CPR/First Aid
  • Field work experience (hiking, working outdoors)
  • Personal transportation

Duty Location:

Duties are performed within Council and Weiser Ranger Districts, Payette National Forest. Placements will report daily to the WZ Silviculture office located in Council, Idaho.

Terms of Employment:

One Individual Placement will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting June 8, 2026, through August 28, 2026 for a total of 12 Weeks. The individual placement will average 40 hours of labor per week, minus holidays. Individual placements are responsible for providing their own personal transportation and food. Housing may be provided.

Program Benefits:

Individual placements will earn $7,680 living allowance, dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the 12 weeks (480 Hours). The living allowance is taxable.
