Location: Remote (Ability to work in the Glen Ellen office on occasion preferred)
Level: Entry to Junior Level
Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 (depending on experience)

ROLE

As our program assistant, you would play a crucial role in supporting our staff and Board by assisting with programs, fundraising, communications, and administration. The right individual will have a passion for ocean conservation and be eager to tackle diverse tasks. You should be a quick learner, independent, highly motivated and adept with technology. This position reports to the President of Marine Conservation Institute.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Support an efficient working environment throughout the organization.
  • Assist the President by scheduling meetings, tracking projects, prioritizing tasks, coordinating travel and acting as a gatekeeper when needed.
  • Coordinate Intern recruitment
  • Support Communication Team
    • Support social media channels and interns
    • Manage regular website updates and maintenance
    • Update program content and outreach pieces
    • Support production of annual impact report
    • Write, edit and post newsletters, press releases and blog posts
  • Support Development Team
    • Conduct grant research, writing and reporting
    • Maintain development calendar
    • Assist with event planning
    • Enter data into CRM
    • Correspond with existing and prospective donors
  • Support major program initiatives: High Seas Conservation, MPAtlas and Blue Parks as requested.
    • Conduct research to support staff
    • Help write and produce reports and presentations for a variety of audiences, including policymakers and donors.
    • Monitor ocean-related news and social media channels, alerting staff to key stories and issues.
  • Support Board of Directors
    • Manage files, correspondence, and other materials for Board meetings and provide logistic support.
    • Assist Board Secretary in recording official minutes, notes and action items.
  • Manage intern programs by organizing the program, recruiting excellent interns and supporting their success.
  • Manage organizational correspondence.
  • Organize and maintain institute records and files.
  • Schedule staff meetings and maintain organizational calendars.
  • Attend meetings and calls as requested to record notes and action items.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Good online research skills and familiarity with scholarly research outlets
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and prioritize based on organizational needs
  • Experience with social media and preparing content (tiles and videos)
  • Experience with design and layout of documents (Adobe, Canva)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Ability to be successful in a virtual/remote environment
  • Commitment to an organizational culture and structure that fosters cooperation, communication, collaboration, teamwork, equity and trust
  • Familiarity with and interest in marine conservation issues
  • Previous experience in nonprofit environments a plus

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

The total compensation package for eligible employees includes 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, employer-paid medical, dental, and vision, 15 days of paid vacation, 12 paid holidays and sick leave.
