Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Project Manager will work on an array of issues related to land use and natural resources and regularly monitor agendas, media, public notices, and permits to stay abreast of projects. The Project Manager will also attend public meetings and hearings to gather information and as needed and publicly represent the organization. This position will be responsible for extensive grassroots organizing, relationship and coalition building, communication with community leaders and partners, engaging with the media, and policy analysis and interpretation. This role also requires flexibility to meet the external demands of the job and requires regularly attending evening public meetings.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor, identify, and analyze media, local government agendas, public notices, and permits.
  • Become a subject-matter expert quickly when new issues arise.
  • Attend public meetings and hearings to gather information and/or represent the Conservation League’s priorities.
  • Support, initiate, and lead grassroots advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate and coordinate regularly with program staff to assist where needed on relevant projects.
  • Communicate consistently with citizens, community leaders, elected officials, and partners.
  • Work with media to convey news about projects, goals, and outcomes.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with members and donors.
  • Support GrowFood Carolina and other Conservation League initiatives in the Charleston Metro area as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Authorities:

  • Responsible for managing ongoing program specific projects.
  • Responsible for managing project coordinator(s) and interns and/or externs within department.

  • Understanding of state and local governments in South Carolina
  • Solid understanding of best practices for media and other audiences

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, empathy, and a commitment to and passion for the Coastal Conservation League’s missions and values

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated passion for environmental advocacy
  • Demonstrated appreciation for the Lowcountry

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a related field with 1-2 years of work or experiential intern/extern coursework
  • Experience with environmental education/interpretation and/or knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations
  • Experience leading grassroots advocacy campaigns
  • Knowledge of land conservation, natural resource management, etc.
  • Familiarity with GIS

 

Work Environment

The position operates in a professional office environment and may include working remotely.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and climb stairs.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Travel

Some travel is required and may include occasional overnight travel.
