Skill Up for the Planet is a new nonprofit organization (website in the works!) dedicated to creating world-class, affordable online education that prepares people for impactful careers in climate, conservation, and sustainability. We partner with leading universities and other organizations to design and deliver learning experiences that equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to make a difference.
The Role
We’re seeking a Project Manager: Online Conservation Education who combines strong conservation expertise with a passion for online teaching and learning. This role will contribute directly to an ambitious new initiative on conservation education. You’ll lead the design and management of online courses, from drafting content to coordinating subject matter experts and ensuring a seamless learner experience.
Ideal candidates are conservation experts with experience in education and content development, proactive in managing projects, and skilled at connecting people and ideas to create engaging learning experiences.
By the end of Month 1, you’ll be drafting and reviewing course outlines, learning our tools, and beginning owning course sections. By Month 3, you’ll be leading full course design and delivery—managing experts, collaborating with partners, designing assignments, and ensuring content quality and consistency.
This is a remote role, though availability in the U.S. West Coast working hours is required.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and structure online conservation courses, guiding content quality and learning outcomes.
- Manage timelines and deliverables across multiple projects, coordinating contributors and subject matter experts.
- Collaborate with university partners and practitioners to design meaningful assignments and applied learning experiences.
- Build and refine course content in Canvas and Articulate Rise 360, ensuring a cohesive and engaging learner experience.
- Stay current with best practices in online education and digital pedagogy.
Core Skills and Qualifications
Required
- Interdisciplinary conservation expertise — strong grounding in conservation science, policy, politics, and/or management.
- Teaching and learning design experience — experience developing lessons, projects, or assignments that engage learners, ideally online.
- Project management skills — ability to track multiple projects, timelines, and deliverables.
- Professional conservation network — active connections to conservation experts, especially in the public or NGO sectors.
- Strong writing and communication skills, particularly with public audiences.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with learning platforms such as Canvas and Articulate Rise 360.
- Strong design instincts and attention to visual quality in online education.
- Experience teaching adults/professionals
- Experience writing for diverse audiences or translating complex concepts into clear, engaging content, such as multimedia journalism.
Compensation: This role will begin as a part-time contract (~10 hours/week) for the first three months at $1,800–$3,000/month commensurate with experience. Beginning in Q1 2026, the position will have the opportunity to become full-time.
To Apply: Please fill out the following Google Form. We will ask for
- A few short answers that demonstrate alignment with the role
- Resume
- Work sample that demonstrates your ability to design or communicate educational or conservation content
Important: No AI-Generated Applications
Do not use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, etc.) to write or edit your application. We would much rather see a few grammatical errors and true voice than the blandness of AI-generated prose. Applications detected as AI-written will be automatically rejected. If selected for the role, you’ll have opportunities to use AI tools — thoughtfully and transparently — as part of the work. But for now, we’re looking for your own authentic voice.
When you apply, please indicate that you are responding to the posting on Conservation Job Board.
