Position Overview
Grassy Creek is seeking a property manager for Winterlake Lodge, a remote fly-in location in Alaska. The Property Manager serves as the primary steward of the lodge during active development and seasonal isolation periods, ensuring that facilities, infrastructure, equipment, and sled dogs are maintained to the highest standards. The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, mechanically inclined, experienced with dogs, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment where flexibility is essential. Due to the nature of this remote position, applications from either an individual or a couple will be considered. This is a hands-on, on-site position. This full-time, year-round position pays a salary of $60,000 and includes benefits, housing, and food is provided.
Winterlake Lodge is a remote fly-in property in Alaska requiring a highly capable, self-directed professional to oversee lodge operations, property maintenance, and sled dog care year-round. The lodge is currently closed to full-time hospitality operations and is actively undergoing construction and development. The property is busy with ongoing construction activity during both the summer and winter months, including contractor coordination, material deliveries, and infrastructure improvements. Due to its remote location, there are seasonal periods—during transitional lake melt and freeze—when access via fixed-wing aircraft is not possible. During these off-season access windows, the Property Manager will serve in a caretaker capacity, overseeing the dogs, facilities, infrastructure, and overall security of the property without regular access in or out.
Key Responsibilities
Property & Infrastructure Management
- Oversee all lodge facilities, systems, and grounds.
- Maintain power infrastructure including generators, battery systems, and related equipment.
- Manage fuel ordering, documentation, and deliveries.
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative upkeep.
- Manage snow removal, lake/runway access maintenance, and winter operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of exterior areas, grounds, and waste systems.
- Act as on-site property security and steward of the lodge.
Construction & Development Support
- Serve as on-site liaison and support for construction crews and contractors.
- Receive, store, and document shipments and construction materials.
- Organize and coordinate plane arrivals and departures for materials and staff.
- Track ongoing repairs, development tasks as requested, and operational checklists.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment during active construction.
- Provide reoccurring updates to the Grassy Creek property development team.
Caretaker Responsibilities (Seasonal Isolation Periods)
- Independently oversee lodge infrastructure and security during periods without fixed-wing access.
- Maintain uninterrupted care and feeding of sled dogs.
- Monitor power systems, fuel levels, and critical infrastructure.
- Proactively identify and address maintenance issues during access limitations.
- Maintain consistent communication protocols as conditions allow.
Sled Dog Care & Mushing
- Maintain the health and well-being of all sled dogs.
- Manage feeding schedules and general kennel operations.
- Assist with mushing and development of training programs.
- Monitor dog health and coordinate care as needed.
Operations & Logistics
- Maintain supply inventory and proactively order materials as needed.
- Utilize internal systems for communication, documentation, and approvals.
- Support additional development and operational needs as required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in property management, facilities maintenance, or a similar hands-on role.
- Experience working with sled dogs required.
- Experience supporting construction or development projects preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently for extended periods in a remote setting.
- Comfortable managing responsibilities during seasonal periods of limited access.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to respond to changing priorities in an active construction environment.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Professional communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Work Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Comfortable living and working year-round in a remote, fly-in lodge environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as operational, construction, and seasonal demands require.
