About the Corvallis Environmental Center
The Corvallis Environmental Center (CEC) is a community-based, educational non-profit that has prioritized partnerships to implement programs to address community needs since 1994. CEC's mission is to create a healthy, sustainable community. We do this through pre-K through 8th environmental education, Farm to School programs, youth leadership development, teacher training, and food security. We are based in Corvallis, Oregon and work in surrounding communities of Benton and Linn Counties. CEC’s programs include after school programs, summer camps, a nature-based preschool in Avery Park, classroom education in partnership with local school districts, family programs and events, and a 1-acre demonstration and education garden in Starker Arts Park known as SAGE. The food grown at SAGE is donated to those in need through our social service partner agencies.

About the Position
The Corvallis Environmental Center is seeking a part-time nature programs educator to join our education team. This educator will primarily be working with elementary aged students in our after-school environmental education program through June (Part-time, 15-20 hours per week), with the option to continue working full-time during our summer camp programs. They will lead lessons, activities, and games focused on ecology, science, nature connection, skill building, and more. The person in this position may also participate in other education programs as a substitute when needed. These programs include Schools Out Adventures, Farm to School, NaturePlay preschool, field trips, outreach events, and custom education programs. We are seeking applicants with the ability to build relationships with children and create a welcoming space for them to learn. We encourage people with informal experience working with children- including parents, mentors, community leaders, or folks who’ve helped raise
younger siblings- to apply.

Reports to: Nature Programs and Camps Coordinator

Employment Type: Part-time, 15-20 hours per week (through June)

Full time, 30+ hours per week (mid-June through September)

Pay Rate: $17.50 - $18.50 per hour DOE

Location: Based in Corvallis, Oregon

Hours: Typically M-Th afternoons (1pm-5:30pm) during the school year, with occasional morning programs or evening events.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead games, lessons, and activities for children in grades 2-5
  • Facilitate a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Occasionally attend education-oriented outreach events, such as science and curriculum nights at local schools
  • Oversee program volunteers and interns
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and organization-wide events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience (formal or informal) leading groups of elementary aged children
  • Interest in science, ecology, sustainability, gardening, and/or other nature related topics
  • Demonstrates a commitment to equity and creating a positive, inclusive work environment.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, professional, and dependable; ability to work independently, in a team, and in a support role
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • First Aid/CPR certified by time of employment
  • Preference given to applicants who are bilingual (Spanish and English)
