About Us:

MTM Environmental, LLC is a Certified Woman-Owned Small Business (“WOSB”) environmental consulting firm providing a wide range of ecological services for private landowners, land managers, entities, and organizations, such as wildlife surveys, stream sampling, vegetation surveys, environmental DNA sampling, land management planning, conservation easement and baseline documentation reports, mapping, wetland delineations, environmental site assessments, and drone imagery operations, among others. Since our launch in 2021, we have completed numerous projects across the Southeast, Midwest, and Western U.S.

Job Description:

We are seeking recreation mowing and maintenance technicians to conduct recreation site grounds operational services, which include (1) recreation area cleaning; (2) toilet/ shower building cleaning; and (3) recreation area litter pickup. Facilities such as toilet/shower buildings and other recreational facilities must be cleaned weekly, on either Monday or Thursday depending upon the location. All work will be performed between the hours of 9:00 am and 7:00 pm on the specified days.

Locations include but are not limited to:

  • Brushy Creek Campground (Bankhead National Forest)
  • Houston Campground (Bankhead National Forest)
  • Payne Lake Recreation Area (Talladega National Forest)
  • Vick Shooting Range (Talladega National Forest)
  • Lake Chinnabee (Talladega National Forest)
  • Coleman Lake Recreation Area (Talladega National Forest)
  • Warden Station Horse Camp (Talladega National Forest)
  • Pine Glenn (Talladega National Forest)
  • Uche Shooting Range (Tuskagee National Forest)
  • Other trailheads, shooting ranges, and picnic areas in each forest.

This position requires individuals who are comfortable working independently in remote environments such as these recreation areas, who are self-starters with a strong work ethic and open communication skills. This position requires a very specific schedule. If weather conditions or other factors arise that cause unavoidable delays, this must be communicated in advance in order to reschedule in a timely manner prior to the missed work.

MTM will provide pertinent training, protocols, equipment (if needed), staff shirts and badges, and personal protective equipment gear to technicians at the beginning of the season.

Responsibilities:

  • Dress in appropriate, neat, identifiable clothing.
  • Litter pickup.
  • Cleaning toilet/shower building.
  • Trash collection.
  • Communicate effectively and timely with project lead to provide updates on the work and ensure that the work has been completed for the specified day.
  • Responsible for safeguarding all Government property as well as keys and lock combinations.
  • Maintain all documentation, records, and schedules and submit to project lead on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for acquiring provided supplies from the Government.
  • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining any supplies needed to complete these tasks and maintaining the associated monthly expense logs, as directed.
  • Submit data timesheets to project lead on a timely basis, as requested.
  • Always prioritize safety for both self and visitors.
  • Check in frequently with your project lead and be available and responsive by email/phone.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+
  • Must be motivated to work and have a good attitude to get the job done.
  • Needs dependable transportation to work.
  • Be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Have great attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Physical and mental capability of performing the physical tasks outlined in this job description including cleaning during the hot and humid Alabama summers. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience cleaning.
  • Prior experience mowing and conducting lawn care and the ability to mow/trim/edge 4 - 23 acres independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility working in and out of cell signal.
  • Competency following instructions, and adaptability resolving challenging situations.
  • Proven adherence to field safety protocols and use of good judgment in the field.
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn, maintain a good attitude and overcome challenges.

Benefits:

  • Starting at $15+ per hour, based on experience.
  • All work-related mileage incurred in execution of responsibilities using a personal vehicle will be reimbursed at the current federal mileage rate. (i.e. between locations in the National Forest, but not from home to job site.)
  • In-person training will be provided for one day (to be confirmed upon hire).

Location: National Forests of Alabama –

Bankhead, Talladega, and Tuskegee National Forests

            (Other locations may also be included)

Job Type: Part-time (multiple positions available) (some positions may be seasonal)
