The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Regional Fishery Manager for our Clearwater Regional Office in Lewiston.

General Information:  

• This announcement will be used to fill the current opening for Regional Fishery Manager in Lewiston only.  

Responsibilities: 

• Develops management, research, monitoring, and communication priorities for regional fisheries.
• Supervises, mentors, and trains staff to properly collect and analyze fisheries data as well as engage with partners and anglers. 
• Evaluates and prepares management plans that identify priorities and set management direction for species, drainages, or fisheries. 
• Identifies land-acquisition priorities for fisheries program.
• Evaluates impact of natural events or man-caused disturbances to fish populations and habitats.
• Reviews and comments on environmental impact statements and FERC permits for hydropower licensing or other private or federal projects.
• Recommends fishing seasons, limits, and rules. 
• Determines fish stocking strategies for regional fisheries in streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and ponds.
• Oversees fishing and boating access program and staff; cooperatively establishes development and maintenance priorities for access sites. 
• Testifies at or provides written comment for various administrative hearings or procedures such as water-rights applications, stream-channel alterations, and infrastructure development projects.  

Minimum Qualifications: (All qualifications listed below are required. To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the minimum experience and/or education standards as outlined in the typical qualification guidelines. The minimum qualifications listed below are typically met through at least eight years of applied professional field experience working as a biologist or a consultant for organizations, such as: a state agency, a tribe, a large private land owner, a power company, or non-governmental organization while doing water management or fisheries related work and at least one year of experience supervising and training.) employees. Supervisory experience must have included assigning and reviewing work, setting priorities, and evaluating performance OR successful completion of a bachelor's degree in fishery management or closely related field and four years of applied professional field experience working as a biologist or a consultant for organizations, such as: a state agency, a tribe, a large private land owner, a power company, or non-governmental organization while doing water management or fisheries related work and at least one year of experience supervising and training.) employees. Supervisory experience must have included assigning and reviewing work, setting priorities, and evaluating performance OR through successful completion of graduate-level college coursework leading to an advanced degree in Fishery Management or closely related field and at least two years of applied professional field experience working as a biologist or a consultant for organizations, such as: a state agency, a tribe, a large private land owner, a power company, or non-governmental organization while doing water management or fisheries related work and at least one year of experience supervising and training.) employees. Supervisory experience must have included assigning and reviewing work, setting priorities, and evaluating performance.  

• Considerable knowledge of fish management practices to include habitat requirements, population dynamics, life history, taxonomy, ecology, and parasites and diseases of various fish; ichthyology; limnology 
• Experience: supervising and training others; evaluating land and water developments to determine impact on fish resources; collecting, evaluating, and interpreting statistical and other data relating to fishery research or fishery management, writing reports of findings.
