DEPARTMENT: Community Engagement

REPORTS TO: Volunteer Programs Manager

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $20.00- $23.00 per hour (depending on experience) and mileage reimbursement (at current CA reimbursement rate)

SCHEDULE: 40 hours a week. Expected to work 2+ Saturday events per month (8 hour shift on Saturday). Saturday time will be issued as comp time and will not qualify for overtime pay. Required to work the two annual countywide cleanups (3rd Saturday of April and 3rd Saturday of September). The Regional Programs Coordinator will manage and organize logistics, while stewarding volunteer and partnership opportunities in the following programs: Annual Countywide Cleanups (Creek to Bay and Coastal Cleanup Day), Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, and various other partner cleanup events. The position will emphasize program recognition, access, growth, and involvement in each of San Diego County’s diverse communities. The Regional Programs Coordinator will work alongside the Volunteer Programs team to implement hundreds of cleanups throughout San Diego County every year engaging residents, corporate groups, community organizations and schools.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Coordinate and execute two largescale annual countywide cleanups: Creek to Bay (3rd Saturday in April) and Coastal Cleanup Day (3 rd Saturday in September)
    o Manage logistics for 100+ cleanup sites with respective volunteer site leaders, coordinate recruitment of 5,000+ volunteers via online registration, create event messaging, updating spreadsheets, organize trash hauling, supply inventory and distribution, volunteer training and communications, and update program
    manuals and training guides
  • Manage, promote, and grow the organization’s Cigarette Litter Prevention Program.
    o Maintaining the 100+ buttcan receptacles inventory, overseeing cigarette butt data collection efforts, establishing partnerships, organizing and training volunteers
  • Maintain data in the volunteer management database (Samaritan) and affiliate portals
  • Lead cleanup events throughout San Diego County for the public (including on weekends)
  • Oversee the purchase, inventory, budget, storage and distribution of all volunteer cleanup supplies
  • Training and supervision of support staff
  • Track and utilize metrics and write reports for respective grants, programs, and contracts within given deadlines
  • Support the development team in procuring grants
  • Work closely with the Marketing department to promote community events including collateral (creation of flyers, blurbs, Facebook event pages, e-newsletter blasts, social media posts etc.) and event content for ILACSD’s website: cleansd.org.
  • Support the Community Engagement department to complete department-specific contracts, tasks, and organization as necessary
  • Foster positive relationships with community groups, elected officials, and other parties who can assist I Love A Clean San Diego in fulfilling its mission and supply funding
  • Correspond with volunteers to encourage participation with I Love A Clean San Diego’s programs and events
  • Attend organizational events, booths, swaps, and cleanups as needed
  • Professional and accurate representation of I Love A Clean San Diego
  • Other supporting activities across the organization as necessary

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, set goals, and develop systems to achieve program goals
  • Maintain clear notes and documentation across the programs
  • Effectively plan and organize large scale events while maintaining other programs
  • Increase and grow community engagement in/attendance for all managed programs
  • Build, create, and maintain a positive experience for all I Love A Clean San Diego event participants
  • Successfully build partnerships and create positive long-standing relationships with community groups

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work weekend events
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google Drive, Slack, Zoom/Teams, Excel
  • Must be able to lift 30-50 LBS
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking long distances at cleanups and events
  • Reliable transportation
  • Located in San Diego County
  • Ability to pass background check prior to employment
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Highly motivated; proactive self-starter
  • Driven to streamline and grow systems
  • Project management and event planning experience
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Ability to troubleshoot event challenges efficiently, confidently and independently
  • Ability to work well with subordinates, peers, supervisors, partners, and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable presenting in front of large groups
  • Knowledge of San Diego County and its environmental challenges
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to details
  • Knowledge and interest in environmental issues, storm water pollution prevention, waste diversion, and zero waste lifestyles
  • Positive and dynamic interpersonal skills

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Full-time, non-exempt
  • $20 - $23 per hour, depending on experience
  • Mileage reimbursement at current CA reimbursement rate
