Reptile Caretaker - Part-time

Reptile caretaker opening at Butterfly Tampa. Currently we have a living exhibit within Little Red Wagon Native Nursery while we work on expanding at this location. We have several animals in our nature center including snakes (all non-venomous), frogs, tortoise, turtles and lizards. There are times where the reptile caretaker also assists with our bug zoo caretaking.
The reptile caretaker position opening is currently a part time position.
Ideal candidates would have experience in animal husbandry specific to reptiles.
The caretaker responsibilities include:
- Husbandry for all animals to maintain animals’ wellbeing
- Maintenance of lights
- Feeding animals
- Cleaning enclosures/habitats
- Water and misting
- Helping snakes if there are shed issues
- Outdoor time for some of the animals
- Monitor well being
- Ability to handle some or all of the reptiles as needed
- Be available for emergency preparedness as needed
- Daily communication/reporting to CEO for status of animals
- Learn basics of plant and gift shop and ringing up of customers (rarely needed)
- Occasional assistance with unloading plant deliveries and tagging
- Keep reptile spaces clean and supplies put away
- Maintenance of live food for animals
- Responsible for re-order information to business office for live food for animals and other supplies before they run out
- Daily communication with CEO and/or operations director and Herp curator regarding status of animals and any issues that arise.
- Other tasks as assigned
