THE COALITION TO RESTORE COASTAL LOUISIANA 

As the state’s first nonprofit organization dedicated to coastal restoration, CRCL works at the local, state and federal levels to ensure that restoring and protecting Louisiana’s coast is a top priority for the state and the nation. In addition to CRCL’s roles as an advocate and a watchdog, the organization serves as a responsible steward of Louisiana’s rich coastal wetlands, actively facilitating and funding coastal restoration projects. 

CRCL unites a diverse, nonpartisan set of interests via its Board of Directors and robust organizational partnerships. Through the efforts of volunteers who recycle oyster shells and plant marsh grasses and trees across the coast, membership events, conferences and newsletters, CRCL connects with thousands of individuals each year. CRCL’s multifaceted, comprehensive and coast-wide approach to restoration distinguishes the organization from every other civic and environmental group in the region. 

The Role 

The Restoration Coordinator will serve as a key member of CRCL’s Restoration Department and will be poised to strengthen the capacity of the organization’s coastal restoration activities. The Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Department’s programs, contributing to strategic development, building support for and implementation of programmatic restoration including CRCL’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program and Native Plants Program. This will include working with a team to design, plan, execute and monitor restoration projects across the Louisiana coast in support of CRCL’s mission.  

The Coordinator will be primarily responsible for restoration project logistics and leading fieldwork and 30 to 50 annual volunteer events. The Coordinator will oversee data collection and management, external partner relationship development and coordination, tracking and systems optimization.  

The Coordinator will support operations at CRCL’s Restoration Headquarters including oversight of oyster shell storage and native plants nursery. Workdays will involve an array of field and office responsibilities, including frequent field days directing and supervising volunteers of varying experience levels in remote locations across coastal Louisiana. This position will require a flexible schedule and some work on weekends as well as occasional overnight travel. 

Responsibilities 

  • Support the planning and execution of volunteer events to raise awareness around coastal restoration in Louisiana 
  • Maintenance of CRCL’s Restoration Headquarters including native plant nursery care to ensure healthy production of plants for restoration projects 
  • Monitoring of past restoration projects to communicate project success to the public and funders, including data collection, entry and analysis 
  • Coordinate program logistics, events, partner relationships and contribute to new project development 
  • Responsible for program data tracking, entry, analysis and quarterly reporting 
  • Serve as an effective spokesperson for the organization in the form of public speaking, reports, presentations, etc.  
  • Support organizational activities including staffing fundraising events, conferences, outreach opportunities, etc. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the environmental field 
  • Bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalent with a concentration in environmental studies, science or related  
  • Knowledge of Louisiana’s coastal dynamics, challenges and proposed solutions 
  • Independent, self-motivated and organized 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and leadership skills 
  • Personable and comfortable working with the public in a leadership role 
  • Experience with public speaking or willingness to engage with public speaking 
  • Ability to think strategically and prioritize activities in a fast-paced environment 
  • Operational knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and ArcGIS 
  • Experience with fieldwork in a wetland environment 
  • Experience growing and caring for plants in a nursery 
  • Strongly encouraged to possess a personal automobile 

Required Qualifications 

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and safe driving record 
  • Experience and/or willingness to drive company vehicles including but not limited to trailing a flatbed trailer, enclosed trailer 
  • Ability to complete work that requires almost constant standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending and climbing along with lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently 
  • Ability to collaborate in a hybrid work setting and work atypical hours and weekends, and occasional overnight travel 
  • Applicant must live in or near New Orleans, Louisiana 
  • Comfort with physically demanding outdoor work in various weather and site conditions
