This position coordinates and completes tasks for ecological restoration projects from planning through completion. The role combines technical restoration skills with administrative responsibilities, and works directly with contractors, agency partners, and landowners. Core activities include supporting restoration design work, preparing service contracts, overseeing on-site construction, conducting field data collection, processing invoices and grant reporting. This position’s primary focus will be in the southeast region of Minnesota. Frequent travel, including occasional extended overnight trips, throughout Minnesota will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Assist restoration program managers to complete habitat restoration projects – 70%
The Coordinator serves as the Land Trust’s primary on-site inspector for restoration projects

  • Communicate with partners, local governments, and landowners about project activities
  • Perform field work to scope out new projects and contribute to restoration plans
  • Prepare basic maps and GIS data
  • Complete scopes of work, bid packages and vendor contracts
  • Work directly with contractors and other service providers to ensure compliance with the scope of work  
  • Track project schedules and ensure timely completion of project tasks; communicate with contractors or partners as necessary to complete projects

Support Restoration Program administration – 20%
The Coordinator maintains thorough record-keeping of projects and compiles information for grant reporting requirements

  • Maintain organizational record-keeping and project database
  • Process invoices and other paperwork following procedure in a timely manner
  • Support grant applications and reporting

Support other organizational efforts – 10%
The Coordinator has the opportunity to contribute to other Land Trust programs 

  • Contribute to the Restoration Program’s statewide goals and objectives
  • Assist Development Program with fundraising and other organizational events 
  • Assist Communications to develop media and stories that highlight the Land Trust’s work.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Licenses/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or environmental science and one (1) years’ experience in natural resource management or habitat restoration; or, equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience in implementing restorations and inspecting and evaluating the quality of habitat restorations
  • Experience writing and editing technical reports or documents
  • Valid driver’s license. 
  • Preferred: Experience in Minnesota native plant identification and using MNDNR Native Plant Community Guides

Knowledge: 

  • Basic ecological restoration principles, methods, and practices 
  • Natural resource management assessment related to native plant species, soils, wetlands, or related fields
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Minnesota ecosystems and ecology

Skills: 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook. 
  • GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) 
  • Basic record-keeping and filing 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication 
  • Time management and prioritization 
  • Basic problem-solving and critical thinking 

Abilities:

  • Self-directed with ability to work alone and as part of a team 
  • Well organized and attentive to details and accuracy 
  • Develop working relationships with people with a wide range of perspectives
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Work in remote, rural, and agricultural settings

Physical Demands: 

This position is physically demanding and requires the following abilities:  

  • Ability to complete extended workdays outdoors and occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to perform computer work at a desk for up to 8 hours.  
  • Ability to drive a vehicle for 8 hours to travel throughout Minnesota.    
  • Ability to walk up to 3 miles over uneven terrain. 
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 40 pounds. 
  • Ability to operate ATV, UTV, and other vehicles in off-road conditions.  

Supervisor: Restoration Program Manager
Classification: Full time, Exempt
Location: Duluth, St. Paul, or southeastern MN; Hybrid
Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000/year
