The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) is seeking to hire a team of part-time seasonal field technicians to assist with the implementation of volunteer events across south Louisiana. Since 2000, CRCL’s restoration programs have recruited nearly 14,000 volunteers to help restore thousands of acres of coastal habitat. The restoration programs are the Oyster Shell Recycling Program and the Native Plants Program. The field technicians will assist CRCL’s restoration team with the execution of events to plant trees and grasses, recycle oyster shells and build living shorelines. 

This position will require occasional long workdays and overnight travel, and scheduling will be flexible. Applicants can expect to work 20 to 30 volunteer days between September 2025 and June 2026. Workdays will typically be Fridays and Saturdays. 

CRCL is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to unite people in action to achieve a thriving, sustainable Louisiana coast for all. CRCL unites business leaders, scientists, landowners, national and local conservation groups, government agencies, hunters, anglers and a broad spectrum of concerned residents to advance restoration of a sustainable coastal Louisiana.  

Responsibilities 

  • Support staff in the implementation of volunteer tree and grass planting events throughout the year, typically on Fridays and Saturdays. 
  • Support staff in the implementation of recycled oyster shell living shoreline creation projects. 
  • Implement volunteer events at CRCL’s Restoration Headquarters in St. Bernard Parish, recycling oyster shells and maintaining the native plants nursery. 
  • Supervise volunteers at remote field sites accessible only by boat. 
  • Ensure events provide safe, positive and high-quality experiences for volunteers. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Able to communicate clearly and collaborate with internal and external partners to execute projects as a team. 
  • Able to self-direct work and effectively lead others to accomplish project goals. 
  • Able to work primarily on Fridays and Saturdays. 
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and reliable transportation. 
  • Able to comfortably navigate through remote wetland sites in hot, cold and wet conditions. 
  • Ability to complete work that requires almost constant standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending and climbing along with lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. 
  • Positive, professional and exhibit a solutions-oriented attitude. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Candidates with the following experience and abilities would be preferred: 

  • Coursework in wetland ecology, general ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, natural resource management or similar fields. 
  • Experience working with volunteers. 
  • Experience with field work in a coastal environment. 
  • Familiarity with Louisiana’s coastal land loss issues and coastal restoration/protection projects. 
  • Experience leading/managing groups and comfort with public speaking. 

Compensation: $22/hour 

Location: Projects planned for the 2025-2026 field season will take place in the following parishes: Cameron, Terrebonne, Lafourche, Jefferson, Tangipahoa, Plaquemines, Orleans and St Bernard. Carpool opportunities from New Orleans will be provided for all events.
