If you have a passion for green spaces and knowledge of plants, you may be just the right candidate for us—Friends of High School Park seeks a part-time Restoration Manager (10-12 hours/week to start, increasing up to 20 hours/week after training). FHSP is a 31- year-old organization stewarding an 11-acre native ecosystem in Cheltenham Township. Key attributes include a degree/background in horticulture, good organizational and communication skills, and ability to be a Park ambassador. The position requires physical strength with lifting and transporting plant material. You will work primarily onsite (flexible hours) in collaboration with our Operations Manager, while providing support for Park events and FHSP meetings and gatherings.

I. High School Park Maintenance

A. Management of the HSP Maintenance Calendar

1. Defines, prioritizes and implements seasonal restoration activities utilizing the EMP and Maintenance Calendar as a guide, and in direct collaboration with the Park Restoration and Maintenance (PRAM) Committee of the Board

2. Identifies necessary components for each project (e.g., schedule, equipment, volunteer hours, township resources) and coordinates timely delivery of such in collaboration with PRAM

3. Solicits volunteers, plans, coordinates and oversees restoration efforts

4. Routinely monitors the park, performs maintenance tasks as necessary and prepares for volunteer activities in the park

5. Plans and coordinates new park projects (e.g., entryway construction, signage)

6. Maintains positive and pro-active relationships with township officials.

B. Volunteer Coordination

1. Recruits, trains, educates and supervises volunteers for PRAM

2. Reviews/revises volunteer guidelines annually and as needed

3. Develops master volunteer schedule based on project(s) timing and labor requirements

4. Prepares for volunteer work activities in the park (e.g., marking trees to be dug out, arranging for mulch from the township)

5. Organizes and supervises volunteer work in the park

6. Preserves existing affiliations and cultivates new relationships with potential volunteer groups within the community (e.g., schools, churches, synagogues, businesses)

7. Develops and delivers educational workshops for volunteers

8. Develops/maintains a volunteer database including history, current contacts

9. Recommends/implements methods for acknowledging volunteer service

10. Identifies creative approaches/programs for volunteer recruitment

C. Record Keeping and Reporting

1. Develops and implements a process for documenting park restoration activities

2. Maintains records of monies used for designated purposes (e.g., grants)

3. Develops and maintains system for evaluating the long-term outcomes of restoration work

4. Recommends to the Board changes to plan/processes based on those outcomes

5. Prepares and submits an annual report to the Township Commissioners that summarizes activities and projects, and reports on volunteer hours.

D. Fundraising

1. Supports fund raising efforts as needed

2. Provides project narratives and evaluations for grant applications

II. Administrative Responsibilities (working in collaboration with Operations Manager)

A. FHSP Board relationships

1. Attends and coordinates monthly Park Restoration and Management Committee (PRAM) meetings and Education Committee meetings

2. Attends monthly Board meetings as requested

3. Presents monthly written status reports

4. Makes suggestions regarding policy, planning, implementation

5. Attends committee meetings as required

B. Financial Management

1. Collaborates with Operations Manager and Board Treasurer as needed in preparing and

presenting the annual budget

2. Monitors expenditures

3. Utilizes resources efficiently and economically

4. Seeks Board approval for expenditures in excess of $250.00

C. Community Relations

1. Functions as an official spokesperson for FHSP along with the President of the Board and the Operations Manager

2. Works with Communication Committee to identify methods and media to improve public knowledge of the park and organization

3. Identifies opportunities to promote FHSP and HSP in the community

D. Collaboration with Operations Manager

1. Provides information/consultation to the OM as needed

2. Communicates regularly with the OM

3. Substitutes for the OM as appropriate and needed

4. Assures that the activities of the RM and OM are coordinated

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week
