Roots & Wings Teaching Assistant
Community Ecology Institute
Columbia, Maryland
Do you believe education should give children roots and wings?
This is a call for educators who know learning isn't confined to four walls. It's for those who believe in giving children the freedom to follow their curiosity, to learn through doing, and to forge a deep, personal connection with the living world around them.
Our Roots and Wings program is a thriving ecosystem of learning for homeschool children. Here at Freetown Farm, we don't just teach about the environment; we engage with it. We practice land stewardship, explore through art and science, and foster a community built on belonging and mutual respect. Our days are filled with everything from animal husbandry to free play, guided by the children's own wonder.
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join our "Bulbs" group (ages 5-7) and help us cultivate this rich learning environment. This is more than a job; it's a chance to mentor young hearts and minds, helping them develop the roots of connection and the wings of confidence.
Work schedule
This position is considered part-time and includes 26 hours per week for the 30 weeks that Roots and Wings is in session. Your regular weekly schedule is defined as follows:
- 26 hours of work per week: M-Th 9am-3:30pm or 9:15am-3:45pm and 4 team meetings
- Paid bi-monthly 12 months per year.
If you are ready to be part of a community that values holistic development—social, moral, cognitive, and emotional—and believes in the power of experiential education, we invite you to apply.
