Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center seeks a Seasonal Educator to assist in growing our successful environmental education and public programs into the future.  Located in the tallgrass prairie of the southeast Nebraska, the Center's 1160 acres are managed for over 225 bird species and provide an outdoor classroom visited by over 10,000 students and adults each year. We seek a person with strong educational and communication skills to work on a variety of different projects. The Seasonal Educator will work with the staff to facilitate the Center’s summer camp and fall school field trip programming. The position would also assist the education team with on-site public programs and events and occasional offsite outreach programs.

This is a 3-month full-time assignment, starting in mid-June.

This is an on-site position located at Audubon Spring Creek Prairie, Denton, NE.

Compensation:

$17.00 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Assist education staff with the planning and facilitation of summer day camp program.
  • Assist education staff with facilitating public programs for audiences of all ages on and off site.
  • Assist education staff with facilitation of community science and Plants for Birds programming.
  • Assist education staff with creation of program materials (data sheets, flyers, etc.).
  • Assist center staff with maintenance of buildings and grounds, Center operations, and other tasks.
  • Occasional weekend office duty may be required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least some experience working with children and adults in an outdoor educational setting or equivalent degree and course work is preferred, but not required.
  • High School diploma with either some college education (or equivalent experience) in subjects such as biology, environmental education, science, or related field
  • Enjoy working with diverse audiences of all ages and abilities.
  • Flexible, professional, self-motivated, and experienced in friendly visitor services
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in outdoor conditions.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) desired, but not required.
