Status: Full-time, seasonal (40 hrs/week)
Duration: May 15 – October 15
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate ($20-25/hour), commensurate with experience

Position Overview
The Lake George Association (LGA) seeks a motivated Environmental Scientist or Field Biologist to join our team for the summer and fall field season. This position supports LGA’s mission of safeguarding Lake George through science-based solutions by contributing to on-the-ground research and monitoring.
You will assist with aquatic plant surveys, water quality sampling, and data analysis, working closely with the LGA’s Water Quality Research Associate to generate information that informs protection, restoration and management decisions for the Lake George watershed.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Sampling:
- Conduct aquatic plant surveys across Lake George
- Collect stormwater and baseflow samples for chemical analysis
- Measure physical stream features and assist with watershed monitoring
- GIS Mapping:
- Map aquatic vegetation and sampling locations using GIS tools
- Instrumentation Support:
- Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot water quality monitoring equipment (autosamplers, in-situ sensors)
- Data Analysis:
- Organize and analyze water quality data using Excel and/or R
- Organize and quantify results from aquatic plant survey
- Lab Work:
- Assist with sample preparation and basic laboratory analyses
Qualifications
- Education: Coursework or degree in biology, environmental science, ecology, or related field
- Skills & Attributes:
- Experience with field sampling and data collection
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working outdoors in variable conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of aquatic plants and freshwater ecosystems
- Experience with water quality monitoring and instrumentation
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and basic data analysis (Excel; R a plus)
- Ability to troubleshoot field equipment
- Aquatic plant identification
- NYS driver’s and boating license
- Knowledge of the Lake George Watershed
- General experience with boat operation
Physical Demands
This role involves outdoor work in varied weather, lifting up to 30 lbs, and occasional wading in streams or lakes.
